The Florida Gators and head coach Jon Sumrall may have found football's next Deebo Samuel.

The Florida Gators are in a rebuilding period with new head coach Jon Sumrall leading the charge. After parting ways with Billy Napier in the middle of the 2025 season, the team has a lot of work to do in order to get back on track.

Last year, the Gators ended up compiling a 4-8 record. That was never going to fly for a proud football program like Florida. Even in Sumrall's first year, there are expectations of seeing major improvement across the board.

Granted, no one can expect the Gators to go from 4-8 to being a National Championship contender. However, the bare minimum that most fans would be fine with is a six-win season, but even that would come with disappointment.

With that being said, Sumrall has a long path ahead. He will need to recruit at an elite level and build through the NCAA transfer portal.

So far, his recruiting has been a success. According to Rivals, Florida has the No. 7 recruiting class in the nation for 2027.

One of the players committed to the Gators is four-star wide receiver Elias Pearl. Hailing from Port Charlotte, Florida, Pearl committed to Florida over other programs like Ole Miss, Auburn, Georgia, and Wisconsin. He is a big part of the future for the Gators.

Keeping that in mind, Rivals has also delivered an interesting comparison for Pearl. They believe that he has similarities to longtime NFL star Deebo Samuel, who is currently a free agent.

"Elias Pearl is very similar to how Deebo Samuel looked in high school," they wrote. "Both were around the same size (185 pounds) with similar movement patterns, ability after the catch, and a sneaky large catch radius. Samuel would go on to gain mass while in college, but at there are striking similarities at the same stage."

Standing in at 5-foot-11 and 183 pounds, Pearl seems likely to be a slot wide receiver. He is more than capable of making plays with the football in his hands.

Charles Power of Rivals boldly stated that Pearl has "one of the highest floors of 2027 wide receiver prospects," in a recent scouting report.

Hopefully, the young wideout is able to develop into a big-time part of the Florida offense. Being compared to Samuel is high praise, but now it is up to him to prove that praise right.
