The Florida Gators and head coach Jon Sumrall received exciting news regarding one of the top prospects in the nation last week.
After an impressive haul throughout the 2026 transfer portal, the Florida Gators are now primed for a bounce-back year under the likes of newly-hired head coach Jon Sumrall this season.
However, while fans are excited to see the new regime in action, Sumrall and company have quickly started to make progress within the upcoming recruiting cycle. And despite possessing only a few commits in the 2027 class thus far, the program received exciting news last week regarding one of its top targets.
According to Rivals’ Seth Wiltfong on Sunday evening, the college football insider gave an expert prediction for the Gators to land 2027 five-star interior offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller.
Hiller’s Recruitment
Hiller, who is widely regarded as one of the top players in the upcoming recruiting cycle, would be a massive addition to Sumrall’s 2027 class this offseason. The stout offensive lineman is currently the No. 1 interior offensive lineman in his recruiting class, as well as the No. 1 player in the state of Pennsylvania and the No. 5 prospect in the country, per 247Sports’ Composite.
Standing at 6-foot-5, 300 lbs., Hiller already possesses a perfect frame that will easily translate to the college level. In addition to being one of the best offensive linemen in the nation, the Coatesville, PA native has also seen time on the defensive line, but will likely stick to the offensive side of the ball in college.
Still, Hiller’s violent, aggressive playstyle in the run game will make him a force for years to come.
As of this month, the Gators have continued to emerge as the top program to land Hiller in this year’s recruiting cycle, as both 247Sports’ Brian Dohn and Tyler Harden gave a crystal ball prediction for Florida. However, in order to secure the extremely talented lineman, Sumrall must contend with the likes of the Alabama Crimson Tide, the Tennessee Volunteers, and the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Looking at the rest of the Gators’ 2027 recruiting class, Sumrall and the coaching staff were able to land three commitments in the first three months of the new year. This includes a pair of four-star prospects in cornerback Amare Nugent and wide receiver Tramond Collins. Landing Hiller would give the program its first five-star commit while under Sumrall.
