Florida Lands Promising Update on Recruitment of Top 2028 Recruit
Oct 29, 2026 4:38 AM

The Florida Gators have a strong chance of landing the No. 1 prospect in the 2028 class.

The Florida Gators won the NCAA Title two seasons ago and should be a contender once again in the 2026-27 season. Head coach Todd Golden continues to add more talent for future classes to continue their great run.

Golden could land another top recruit, as No. 1 overall prospect Colton Hiller is focusing on the Gators and the Duke Blue Devils. Florida could have an advantage, as Colton's older brother, Maxwell, is committed to the Gators football program.

Florida has proven to be one of the best teams in college basketball over the last few years. They won the NCAA Tournament in the 2024-25 season with a 36-4 record. The Gators were solid again in the 2025-26 season, advancing to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament with a 27-8 record.

They are among the favorites to compete for a title again in the 2026-27 season with great talent on the roster, including Boogie Fland, Rueben Chinyelu, Thomas Haugh, and Alex Condon.

Fland had a solid year for the Gators in the 2025-26 season, averaging 11.6 points, 2.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.7 steals per game while shooting 44.7 percent from the field and 24 percent from three. Florida will look for him to be more efficient, but he should have a major role on offense.

Chinyelu will also play a key role as a starting big for the Gators. In the 2025-26 season, he averaged 10.9 points, 11.2 rebounds, and a block per game, shooting 58.4 percent from the floor. He won the SEC Defensive Player of the Year Award and will anchor the defense again in the upcoming season.

Haugh will be a lead scorer for Florida after he averaged 17.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.1 steals, and a block per game, shooting 46 percent from the field and 32.6 percent from behind the arc.

Condon will be another key scorer for the Gators, as he averaged 15.1 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.4 blocks per game while shooting 55.6 percent from the floor and 17 percent from distance.

With this core in place and a great coach, Florida is perfectly positioned to compete for a second title in three years.

If Golden and the Gators can continue to add talent for future classes as well, with a player like Hiller, it would help them keep their window open and continue to compete for titles.
