Blue-chip playmaker Trey Martin chose to stay home with LSU, dealing a major blow to Jon Sumrall’s efforts to bolster the Gators' future offensive backfield.
New Florida Gators head coach Jon Sumrall hasn't been shy about how he plans to build his offense.
Sumrall brought in Buster Faulkner to be his offensive coordinator. The offense will feature concepts of the air-raid while having a strong rushing attack.
Quarterback Haynes King was a perfect quarterback for his system last season, rushing for 953 yards and 15 touchdowns while throwing for 2,951 yards, 14 touchdowns, and six interceptions.
GT rushed for 2,567 yards last season, and the Florida offense could rush for much more than that with Jadan Baugh in the backfield. Baugh rushed for 1,170 yards and eight touchdowns on 220 carries last year. He's expected to be a first-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.
Sumrall needs to find Baugh's replacement. The program received disappointing news on a four-star running back they wanted in the 2027 class. Trey Martin told Hayes Fawcett of Rivals that he's committing to LSU. He chose head coach Lane Kiffin's program over Florida and Ole Miss.
"BREAKING: Four-Star RB Trey Martin has Committed to LSU, he tells me for Rivals," Fawcett posted on X. " The 5’10 200 RB from Winnsboro, LA chose the Tigers over Ole Miss and Florida. 'The best in the boot stays inna boot'."

"Does he know Lane leaves his program like a thief in the night every few years?" asked a fan.
"First, Florida fans told us Kiffin was a 'gator lock’; then when he laughed at them, they told us, ‘Good! We got our first choice' with g5 Dumrall and then, 'Kiffin can’t recruit!'" commented another.
"Florida and Ole Miss locked up yet again," wrote a fan.

The Gators still have a running back commit to look forward to in 2027. Andrew Beard committed to Florida in May. But the Gators will need to look for more help in the backfield after losing out on Martin
