Florida OC Named Candidate For Open Florida State Job

The Gators' offense has been much more explosive than expected this year.

The Florida Gators have been one of the more interesting teams across the college football landscape this season.

While Florida has dropped a few games over the last couple of weeks, the team has played much better than most people expected. Under new head coach Jon Sumrall, the Gators have been more relevant than the program has been in a very long time.

Part of this has been due to the play from the offense, which has been much stronger than expected. Even with the quarterback dilemma for Sumrall, the offense has looked good for the most part, being led by offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner.

Faulkner has been a name to watch in college football all season long, with him getting some traction in head coaching rumors. While Faulkner has never been a head coach, he is considered to be one of the better offensive minds in the game, and teams will likely come calling soon.

In a recent article from college football analyst Adam Kramer of Bleacher Report, Faulkner was mentioned as a possible candidate to take over the open Florida State job. Florida State just fired Mike Norvell, leaving one of the premier head coaching spots in college football vacant.

The Seminoles will now begin calling around to find a replacement for Norvell, and Faulkner could make a lot of sense. If Florida State wants to bring in a young offensive mind to run the show, they should look no further than at Faulkner.

Faulkner has done well with the Gators, even with a shaky quarterback situation, injuries on offense, and a tough schedule for Florida. Finding success in the SEC can be tough for anyone, but Faulkner has done it with Florida and the Georgia Bulldogs as an offensive quality-control coach.

The Florida offensive coordinator is just 45 years old, so he could easily build out at Florida State for years if he were to be successful. Faulkner could help bring in multiple top players to the Seminoles, while the team would also weaken the Gators in the process.

It seems like it will only be a matter of time before Faulkner becomes a head coach around the country, and Florida State may want to take this gamble. But for now, Faulkner will focus on helping the Gators finish the season strong, and he will deal with any coaching interviews as time goes on.

Faulkner and the Gators will be taking on the Oklahoma Sooner this week at home.
