Florida Receives Major Update on 4-Star Quarterback

The Florida Gators are among the final three teams to land four-star quarterback Kingston Preyear.

The Alabama Crimson Tide and Vanderbilt Commodores are the other two teams in the mix to land Preyear.

Preyear has been productive over the last two years in high school. In the 2024 season, he completed 94 of 135 passes for 1,787 yards, 20 touchdowns, and two interceptions while rushing for 72 yards on 22 carries.

Preyear played well in 2025, completing 181 of 293 passes for 3,026 yards, 34 touchdowns, and five interceptions while rushing for 518 yards and two touchdowns.

If the Gators are able to land Preyear, he could be a talented quarterback for the future of the program. He is one of the top quarterbacks in the 2028 class and would be a major addition for Jon Sumrall.

Sumrall has already been helping Florida turn around the program since he was hired as the head coach in November. The Gators went 4-8 in the 2025 season, but have the chance to take a major step forward in 2026.

Sumrall had a ton of success before taking the job at Florida, leading Troy to a 23-4 record over two seasons and Tulane to a 20-8 record and a College Football Playoff appearance in his two seasons at Tulane.

He has already made waves recruiting more talent for the Gators as they hold the 10th-ranked 2027 class per 247 Sports.

They are now adding talent for 2028, having landed four-star wide receiver Armani Strong and being a finalist to land Preyear. Preyear would be a big addition for Florida's quarterback room.

The Gators have some question marks at quarterback heading into the 2026 season. Georgia Tech transfer Aaron Philo is likely to be the starter, but doesn't have a ton of experience on the field as he's completed 59 of 102 passes (57.8 percent) for 938 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions while rushing for 95 yards and a touchdown.

While Florida may not be ready to contend in 2026, they have a lot of talent coming in for the next few years, and would love to add Preyear to their 2028 class.
