The University of Florida is usually one of the most pressured programs in all of college football year in and year out.
While that's the case every season, it feels like there's a bit more pressure this time around with Tulane head coach Jon Sumrall. Sumrall, who the Gators hired from a mid-major powerhouse, is expected to come in and do a great job.
Ultimately, he seems to be a good football guy and someone who wants to be around the program. That's a step in the right direction, but the expectations are a lot different than anything he's ever faced.
As Florida gets prepared for this upcoming season, starting on Saturday, there's a lot to like about what the program might look like in the short and long term.
However, that doesn't stop there, as there's a ton of pressure on some of the programs Florida will face to start the season, which includes a trip to Auburn in the middle of September, Ole Miss at home at the end of September, and on the road against a top-25-ranked Missouri team to start October.
“Jon Sumrall, Florida: The Gators can't escape September without facing some SEC heat, traveling to Auburn on Sept. 19 before returning home to host Ole Miss on Sept. 26. All three programs have first-year head coaches trying to make early statements, but Sumrall arguably has the most work to do after the Gators went 4-8 last season.
“According to ESPN Analytics, Florida will lose six SEC games, including to Auburn and Ole Miss. If the Gators can win those games, though, they have a great chance of doubling their win total from a year ago and changing the narrative heading into the heart of SEC play,” Heather Dinich of ESPN wrote.
These are all winnable games for Florida, especially with Ole Miss at home, but they do test Sumrall instantly.
If he isn't the man for the job, I don't think we'll find that out a couple of games into his tenure, but winning these games would really win the fan base over.
The Gators fan base has been dying for the success that it knows it deserves, so these first few games in Sumrall's career will be very action-packed and anxiety-inducing for all involved.
