Florida's senior forward enters the 2026-27 season as the backbone of the nation's top-ranked team.

Thomas Haugh has played meaningful minutes with the Florida Gators since the 2023-24 season, and that sort of longevity isn't seen much anymore in the modern era of college basketball.

Haugh is entering his senior season with the Gators, and he's fresh off a career year where he started all 34 games.

To no surprise, that's the expectation once again in the 2026-27 season, though this year there are more eyes on him than ever before.

Florida was recently ranked No. 1 in the preseason AP Top 25, so there's clearly a lot riding on this season not just for Haugh, but for head coach Todd Golden as well.

As of Wednesday, Oct. 21, Haugh was officially named one of the five players on the preseason AP All-America team, and that's as high of an honor as one could get.

Haugh named AP All-American

To say that Haugh's name is in the same conversation as some of the best in the nation would be an understatement.

Not only is Haugh on this list of five players, but he received 56 votes, which was the second most in the nation.

To no surprise, he trails Michigan State's Jeremy Fears Jr., but Haugh received more votes than Vanderbilt's Tyler Tanner (43), Illinois'  David Mirkovic (24), and Arizona's Motiejus Krivas (17).

For what it's worth, fellow Gators Rueben Chinyelu and Alex Condon also received votes, though neither were able to crack the top five.

Florida's press release reminded Gators fans that the 6-foot-9, 215-pounder is in the same conversation as Walter Clayton Jr. as the only players in franchise history to earn All-America honors from all four major selectors.

Last season, Haugh earned second-team All-America honors from The Sporting News and NABC, and then received third-team honors from the AP and USBWA.

Haugh's rise has been incredible

The New Oxford, PA, native averaged just 14.7 minutes per game when he first saw the floor with the Gators three seasons ago.

He started only two games that season, and while he would start five in 2024-25, it was nowhere near the level of production he reached last season.

Haugh set a new career high with his 17.1 points per game, and he also tied his career high with 6.1 rebounds per game.

The preseason AP All-American shot 46.0% from the floor with a career-high 400 field goals attempted.

Florida's official season opener is on Monday, Nov. 2 against the Miami Hurricanes in Tampa, FL.
