Former Florida Gators star Anthony Richardson has received a big update regarding his NFL future.

A few years back, Anthony Richardson was the starting quarterback for the Florida Gators. While he only started for the Gators in one season, he was a top prospect in the 2021 NFL Draft and ended up being selected at No. 4 overall by the Indianapolis Colts.

Richardson came into the NFL with plenty of questions that needed to be answered. Due to his lack of experience, there were many teams worried that he wasn't good enough to be a franchise quarterback.

During his college career with the Gators, Richardson threw for 3,105 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions while completing 54.7 percent of his passes. He also ran for 1,116 yards and 12 scores.

Despite the concerns from analysts, the Colts decided to take the risk.

Unfortunately, things have not gone well for Richardson in Indianapolis. He has dealt with numerous injury issues throughout his young career and hasn't played great football when he has been on the field.

Ahead of the 2025 season, Richardson lost the starting job to Daniel Jones. He suffered an orbital injury that ended his season prematurely and didn't play much at all.

Now, a new update has surfaced regarding the young quarterbacks future in the NFL.

According to a report from ESPN's Stephen Holder, Richardson has received permission from the Colts to seek out a trade.

"The Colts have given quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. permission to seek a trade, his agent told ESPN on Thursday, the latest twist in the young player's complicated career," Holder wrote.

Where could Richardson end up being traded assuming he is moved? Another report has shared a potential destination for the 23-year-old signal caller.

Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network has shared that there is "mutual interest" between Richardson and the Minnesota Vikings. Richardson has had a good relationship with Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell and Minnesota is reportedly looking to bring in competition for J.J. McCarthy.

Throughout his young career with Indianapolis, Richardson has played in just 17 games. He has completed 50.6 percent of his pass attempts for 2,400 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions, while also running for 634 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Only time will tell what the future has in store for Richardson. The Vikings could be his next team, but there are other franchises who could consider taking a flier on the former No. 4 overall pick.

Expect to hear more news about Richardson's future in the coming days and weeks.
