Cardinals reportedly plan to move veteran and former Florida QB Jacoby Brissett by the trade deadline, adding competition and flexibility to their quarterback room.

Former Florida QB Jacoby Brissett 'Set' to be Traded: Report

Former Florida Gators quarterback Jacoby Brissett wanted a pay raise after the 2025 season.

Brissett threw for 3,366 yards, 23 touchdowns and eight interceptions for the Arizona Cardinals last season.

As expected, the Cardinals waited until Day 2 to address their quarterback situation, taking Carson Beck of the Miami Hurricanes with their third-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Beck would give Brissett some competition for the starting job this fall. The experienced quarterback led Miami to the College Football Playoff national championship game in January.

Beck was expected to be a first-round pick from Georgia, but he battled injury in 2024.

An NFL general manager told Jason La Canfora of Sports Boom that the Cardinals are expected to trade Brissett by the deadline during the regular season.

“They’ll move Brissett by the deadline,” the GM said. “Watch.”

Over the draft weekend, Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort said the team was in a "good spot" with Brissett amid taking running back Jeremiah Love at No. 3 and Beck in the third round.

"Both (head coach) Mike (LaFleur) and I have had good dialogue with Jacoby," Ossenfort said, via the Cardinals.

"Obviously, this is the voluntary portion of everything. We'll continue to have conversations with Jacoby, but things are in a good spot."

The Cardinals added veteran quarterback Gardner Minshew to the roster to battle for the QB1 job with Brissett. Brissett is not expected to report to the beginning of voluntary OTAs this year.

Ossenfort has been honest that the team has a true battle upcoming for the starting quarterback job this year.

"Listen, we got Jacoby, Gardner -- they both played a lot of ball," Ossenfort said earlier in the month, via NFL Media. "You know, I think, as we sit here today, we're trying to install a system.

"You guys (LaFleur's staff) are rolling. You know, I'll defer to you on that, but we're not really naming anybody, and we'll see how that room looks by the time we get in August."

Drafting Beck in the third round gives the Cardinals more flexibility for trading Brissett. It was a wise choice for Arizona to take a chance on Beck.

If Beck can prove he's a starter in the league, the Cardinals have their quarterback. If he struggles and Arizona loses this season, the team can be in line to take another signal caller in a loaded 2027 class.

Brissett will likely not be with the Cardinals when the 2027 NFL Draft rolls around. Who takes a chance on the former Gators quarterback remains to be seen.
