As painful as it might be to watch for Gator fans to watch Florida repeatedly misfire in Saturday's home loss to South Florida, it might have been even more frustrating for them to hear what felt like a re-run of of comments and excuses head coach Billy often made the last two season following a subpar performance.

Have a listen below to his post game presser against the Bulls, who, with their first back-to-back wins over ranked opponents since 2018, have climbed to No. 18 in AP college football poll while Florida tumbled out of the rankings.

To his credit, Napier successfully opened his bottle of water at the podium (that's been an issue before) , and, as usual following a frustrating loss, Napier took full responsibility for the setback. Among other familiar comments, he said his squad needed to improve, clean up mistake and was confident he has a group of players that are up for that challenge.

"We have to do much better, Napier said. "I think we have a group that will respond, and tomorrow will present that opportunity. I think that sums up the game."

Essentially, he delivered a lot of coach's speak, including the obvious: that the Gators "Didn't deserve to win."

On that comment, Napier is unquestionably correct. The doubt that still remains among among many of the Gator Nation faithful, however, is if this squad actually has the character and maturity to respond to the embarrassing loss. Of particular concern was the dreadful behavior of Gators defensive lineman Brendan Bett, who spit in the face mask of USF offensive lineman Cole Skinner. Bett is a Baylor transfer, who entered the portal a few days before Baylor's Green & Gold Spring Game on April 26.

Officials immediately ejected Bett from the game, resulting in a Bulls first down. On the next play, Bulls quarterback Byrum Brown tossed a 29-yard pass to receiver Alvon Isaac. That moved USF into Gator territory and six plays later and some poor clock management from Napier, USF kicker Nico Gramatica's  sealed USF's first ever back-to-back wins over ranked opponents in 2018 with a walk-off winning field goal.

Considering the Gators are now headed to Baton Rouge's "Death Valley" for their Southeastern Conference season opener against Louisiana State on Saturday, Napier has more than a few things to clean up in order to pull his squad out its slump -- and keep the heat off him and his job.
