Florida Gators star defensive tackle Caleb Banks was taken by the Minnesota Vikings with the 18th overall pick in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft.
Banks had a productive career with the Gators, but dealt with foot injuries in the 2025 season.
He spent his first two years at Louisville before transferring to Florida for his final three seasons. In his first year at Florida in 2023, Banks finished with 19 total tackles, a tackle for loss, and a sack.
He had his breakout campaign in 2024, as he was disruptive, finishing with 21 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery.
However, Banks appeared in only three games in his senior season and had six total tackles, a tackle for a loss, and a fumble recovery.
The 23-year-old is a tremendous athlete and has a ton of potential to be a great interior pass rusher and quality run stopper.
"Excited about adding a player of Caleb's talent," Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell said. "Really felt like we were able to identify a player with the ceiling, you know, what we believe to be a top-10-caliber talent and difference-maker, potentially, you know, in a place where we really wanted to add some size and youth to that defensive line."

Minnesota felt strongly about taking him despite the risk, and he could fit well in defensive coordinator Brian Flores' defense. Flores is recognized as one of the top defensive coordinators in the league and will have unique ways to utilize a talent like Banks.
He also addresses a major need for the Vikings after they released defensive tackles Javon Hargrave and Jonathan Allen following the 2025 season.
Banks was the only Gator selected in the first round of the draft, and he will look to get healthy and back to his dominant play on the field as he transitions to his NFL career with the Vikings.
