Todd Golden and the Florida Gators are adding to their 2027 class with a four-star center committing to the program.

The Florida Gators have had a strong basketball program in recent years, winning the NCAA Tournament in the 2024-25 season and advancing to the second round of the tournament in the 2025-26 season.

Head coach Todd Golden and his staff have done an incredible job of getting the most out of their players and recruiting top talent to the program. That trend is continuing, as four-star center Kamsi Awaka has committed to Florida.

Awaka is the No. 31 recruit in the 2027 class and had visited with the Arizona Wildcats, Michigan Wolverines, UConn Huskies, and Michigan State Spartans before committing to the Gators.

Awaka could be impactful in Florida's center rotation as a rebounder, screener, and shot-blocker. He is the second commit the Gators have received for their 2027 class, joining four-star forward Ian Condon.

Florida has a solid track record of developing talent, including at the center position. Rueben Chinyelu is entering his third season with the Gators and has been a valuable contributor over the past two years.

In the 2024-25 season, he averaged six points and 6.6 rebounds per game, shooting 59.9 percent from the field. His numbers jumped in the 2025-26 season, averaging 10.9 points, 11.2 rebounds, and a block per game, shooting 58.4 percent from the floor.

Chinyelu's quality play and development for Florida should give Awaka a pathway to what his career could look like with the program.

Golden has established the Gators as one of the best teams in the country, and they will be competing to win the NCAA Tournament each season. For Florida to win, they will need Alex Condon to have another strong season.

Condon played at a high level in the 2025-26 season, averaging 15.1 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.4 blocks per game while shooting 55.6 percent from the field and 17 percent from three.

The Gators will hope he can be more efficient from behind the arc, but he still had a quality season, contributing in many ways on offense and defense. Florida lost to the Iowa Hawkeyes in the NCAA Tournament last season, but with key players like Condon and Chinyelu returning, they have a legitimate chance of winning it all.

It's an exciting time for the Gators' basketball and football programs, as both teams are highly competitive. Golden will look to lead Florida to a second title in three years while landing some of the top talent available, like Awaka.
