Former Florida head coach Urban Meyer's footprint will apparently be all over Jon Sumrall's new program in Gainesville.
Sumrall wasn't shy about taking a few pages from Meyer's playbook during offseason workouts this winter.
Meyer is a legend for the Gators, leading the school to two national championships during his brief six years with the team.
UF hasn't been as competitive since Meyer left. Sumrall, who took Tulane to the College Football Playoff in 2025, is hoping to return the Gators to the national championship conversation.
On Tuesday, Sumrall told reporters that he plans on bringing Meyer back to Gainesville to help work with his coaching staff.
“Urban is going to spend some time with our coaching staff; just the coaches and Urban in our staff room,” Sumrall said, via On3.
“I’m going to give him a half-hour-ish window, or whatever I got on the schedule for his day, to just address our staff about what it means to be a Florida Gator and what it means to represent this place and do it at a high level and pursue championships."
Sumrall believes Meyer has a "great eye" for how to see excellence from players. Meyer believes he can help Florida maximize their roster for the upcoming season.
In February, Meyer revealed that he played a significant role in helping Florida recruit Sumrall in last year's hiring cycle.
“Coach Sumrall blew me away, and I called (Florida AD) Scott Stricklin back, and there is one issue... and that's Coach Sumrall's wife's an Auburn Tiger... And I don't want to get too much in the woods there, because that's his business," Meyer said.
"But when I heard that, then I flipped the hat on backwards, and I put on a recruiting speech. And I went after his ass now."
It'll be interesting to see what Sumrall's staff can learn from the three-time national champion. But the product on the field should be better for Meyer coming to spend time with the team this spring.
Meyer must have believed that Sumrall was capable of achieving excellence at Florida if he recruited for him to come to Gainesville.
