Scouting the Opposition: Names, Numbers to Know as Florida Faces Tennessee cover image

Florida hosts longtime SEC rival Tennessee for its final conference game of the season. The Vols have one of the nation's best offenses, but they are also fielding one of the SEC's worst defenses.

The Florida Gators (3-7) face the No. 20 Tennessee Volunteers (7-3) this Saturday in Gainesville. Kickoff at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium is slated for 7:30 p.m. on ABC. The Gators are now 0-3 under interim head coach Billy Gonzales after last Saturday's loss at Ole Miss. UT has lost two of its last three SEC games - Oklahoma and Alabama - but got a bounce-back non-conference win over New Mexico State last weekend

Here is everything you need to know about the Volunteers ahead of the SEC matchup.

Tennessee Volunteers — Names, Numbers to Know

2025 Results: Tennessee was a playoff hopeful mid-season after a 5-1 start to the season, but the recent skid in conference play has narrowed those chances considerably. The Vols are the second-highest scoring team in the country at 43.4 points per game, but that offense has let them down in the two most recent losses, being held to 20 and 27 points against Alabama and Oklahoma, respectively.

The prolific offense is no surprise under head coach Josh Heupel, but unfortunately for UT, neither is the struggling defense. The nearly 29 points allowed per game puts Tennessee just barely in the top 100 in the country.

By The Numbers: The Vols are scoring 43.4 points per game (2nd of 136 nationwide), while allowing 28.9 points per game (96th of 136). UT is averaging just under 500 yards per game, led by its up-tempo passing game, which gains an average of 318.3 yards per game. Ole Miss is outgaining opponents by an average of 46.6 yards per game.

Leading Passer: Joey Aguilar - 212-for-320, 2,941 yards, 22 touchdowns, 10 interceptions

Leading Receiver: Chris Brazzell - 52 catches, 873 yards, eight touchdowns, 16.8 yards per catch

Leading Rusher: DeSean Bishop - 119 rushes, 770 yards, 10 touchdowns, 6.5 yards per rush

Leading Tackler: Linebacker Edwin Spillman - 65 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss

Game Analysis: On paper, this is a matchup of strength-on-strength and weakness-on-weakness. Florida's defense has been the only thing keeping the Gators competitive, though it has trailed off over the last couple of weeks. The UF offense has largely stagnated, to the point that DJ Lagway's status as the starting quarterback is being called into question.

Despite UF's struggles, the Volunteers are only 4.5-point favorites. The Gators haven't looked like a team ready to upset a ranked team, but the matchup opportunities are there for it to be a possibility this weekend.
