Florida State Basketball Steamrolls Past Virginia Tech cover image

The Seminoles delivered their most one-sided conference victory yet. Here's how it happened.

Florida State basketball showed no love toward Virginia Tech on Valentines Day.

The Seminoles handed out its most lopsided Atlantic Coast Conference victory of the season -- trouncing the previous 17-8 Hokies 92-69 on Saturday inside Cassell Coliseum.

The final 15 minutes witnessed FSU create it's version of a V-Day massacre, as the Noles stormed out to a 13-0 run to erase a 49-44 deficit. FSU led 57-49 at that sequence and never looked back from there.

Head coach Luke Loucks watched his team shoot nearly 80% on the floor -- delivering a total of 78% with their field goal shooting. That consistent shooting touch eventually built an astonishing 26-point lead for the Seminoles.

Chauncey Wiggins became responsible for shattering the hearts of some loud Hokies fans early in the second half. Wiggins scored 10 early points to ignite the second half rally.

Although Martin Somerville provided the best shooting touch for FSU -- dropping a team-high 23 points including burying the Hokies with 18 during the second half. Somerville has now tied his previous best scoring mark in a Seminole uniform. He also dished this alley oop to further pierce the arrow in on Feb. 14:

Wiggins finished with 19 points, while Robert McCray V dropped 17 on the Hokies. Lajae Jones added 17 points too, plus pulled in seven rebounds.

The bench scoring became even more astonishing for the Noles -- outscoring VT 29-4 there with Somerville shooting at a high percentage.

Florida State added multiple accolades on the holiday in winning the hearts of Seminole fans who yearned for this kind of performance.

The 92 points now represents the most against an ACC foe this season. This lopsided win also marks the largest margin of victory by the Noles this season. Furthermore, FSU joins Duke and Stanford as the only ACC teams to claim wins at Blacksburg, Va.

FSU has earned some notable conference wins under the former basketball player Loucks. Wiggins spearheaded the huge road win over Notre Dame back on Sunday. In-state rival Miami went down against FSU too. There's even the Bay Area sweep of Stanford and Cal -- two programs that became competitive in its own transition from the Pac-12 to the ACC.

Florida State clearly has overcome its slow start in conference play, as FSU stands at 5-7 in the ACC. The Seminoles are 12-13 overall.
