Karlos May left Tallahassee impressed by Mike Norvell’s personalized vision, vaulting the Seminoles ahead of elite programs as he evaluates his future along the defensive front.
Florida State University is coming off a massive recruiting weekend in Tallahassee. The Seminoles hosted various blue-chip prospects over the weekend, some of whom they will be targeting to lock in the coming weeks.
4-star DL Karlos May was one of the top priorities for the Seminoles this weekend, and Norvell made sure May knew that.
Coming off his official visit with the Seminoles, May opened up on his experience at FSU.
"It was great. I enjoyed my first official visit. They kind of showed me everything. Showed me how I would be used in the program. It was good," May said of his visit.
May ranks on top of defensive lineman coach Terrence Knighton’s priority list, and he has been working on building a one-on-one relationship with the Alabama blue-chip prospect since FSU set its sights on him back in the spring.
May has visited FSU a few times back in the spring before finally confirming an official visit. And Knighton leveraged those campus visits perfectly to convince May of a better future with the Seminoles.
"Honestly, when I came on the spring visit, I just kind of got a chance to see how they guys were moving around, how they were practicing. When I came down here for the official visit, I got a chance to see how I would be specifically used in the program and the defense in the scheme,” May said of his spring visit.
"Basically I would be playing the whole line. So depending on the situation, it really don't matter, just wherever they need me at," he added.
May checks in at No. 215 overall in the Top247 rankings. He is considered the No. 24 defensive lineman in his class and No. 11 prospect in Alabama.
Karlos May on FSU's Chances
All that said, luring May to Tallahassee wasn’t the challenging part, it is the heavyweight recruiting battle that Norvell now has to fight to lock in May.
Blue-blood programs like Georgia, Auburn, and Ohio State are also in the mix for the 4-star prospect, and he will be visiting there over the next three weekends.
Auburn, among the three, is viewed as a strong contender for his services.
Although May has claimed that he has no favorites as of now.
"At this point, no," May said of not having a leader. "I really say it's just really those couple of schools just sticking out to me right now. After my official visits, I'm going to break everything down, pros and cons of those schools, where do I really want to be at, and we're just going to make a decision based off all that."
However, an official visit with the Seminoles did “bump them all the way” for him.
"It definitely bumped them up all the way," May continued. "A little higher than what they was, because I got a chance to see exactly how I would be used and just knowing the people I'd be around would keep me motivated. We'd motivate each other to get better and win."
