Sophomore utility player Shelby McKenzie has just been named National Player of the Week and ACC player of the Week. This marks two consecutive weeks that a Seminole has ben named National Player of the week, and the third consecutive week that a Nole has taken home the ACC Player of the Week.

Florida State sophomore utility player Shelby McKenzie was named NFCA National Player of the Week as well as ACC Player of the Week.

This marks the third straight week that a Seminole softball player has been named ACC Player of the Week, and the second week in a row where a Nole softball player has taken home a National Player of the Week award. Junior shortstop Isa Torres is coming off of back to back weeks of being named ACC Player of the Week, as well as D1 Softball and Sports Illustrated's National player of the Week.

McKenzie is coming off of an historic week where she dominated the Cal Bears at the plate with six hits, two home runs with seven RBI. She also had her first multi home run game against the Golden Bears. Keep in mind that the Noles won each game against Cal in their weekend series by the run rule, so all of her damage was done by the top of the fifth inning (they play seven innings in college softball).

On the season the recently named National Player of the Week is batting .328, and leads the garnet and gold with seven home runs.

Torres, who is currently enjoying an eleven game hit streak has been one of the best players in the country so far this year. The All American set an NCAA record against the Bears in their weekend series as she now has 14 hits in 14 consecutive at bats. The shortstop is also the national leader batting 642. The junior also set an FSU record reaching first base in 18 consecutive plate appearances. Torres’s  play in the field rivals her plate performances and has not committed an error all season while at shortstop. Torres is currently building a season resume that will have her considered for National Player of the Year, especially if she can lead the Florida State softball team to the World Series.

Mckenzie and Torres have been the engine behind the offensive success seen at the plate for the Seminole softball team this year. The No.10 ranked Noles are one of the hottest teams in softball and should be a force in the postseason when you combine their success on the mound as well.

Florida State is riding a 17 game win streak and is 28-4 for the season, while remaining undefeated in ACC play at 6-0. The Noles are also undefeated on the road at 3-0 this year.

Up Next for the Noles, North Florida. This single game event will take place in Tallahassee on March 24.
