Florida Gator fans are not happy with the news of DJ Lagway visiting Tallahassee over the weekend.

By now, most are aware that former Florida Gators quarterback DJ Lagway made a visit to Florida State over the weekend, sparking controversy among Florida fans who believe Lagway is a traitor for visiting the Tallahassee campus.

Lagway went 10-9 as the Gators' starter and completed 62% of his passes for 4,179 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 23 interceptions over 24 games (19 starts) in two years with the Gators, but he was often injured.

Two of Lagway’s victories came against the Noles, including this past year. The Gators defeated the Noles, 40-21. In that game, he threw for 168 yards and three touchdowns.

Gator fans went IN on Lagway for making this choice; they weren’t happy at all, and who would be? There is no love lost between the two schools, and the interesting part of all of this is Lagway’s own comments about the Noles throughout the years.

Last March, Lagway made these comments about his former rival.

“Coming in they give you a little seminar about all the rivalries. Like an hour or two video about different rivalries. Different moments of the games and stuff. So, it gets you real fired up," Lagway said. "So, I’ve got a deep hatred for Florida State.

So why would a guy who has such hatred for his rival even take a visit besides the money? Lagway was reportedly making $2 million, but one reason could be because of Gus Malzahn, whose offense may be a better fit for the QB.

Another rumor, at least at this point, all it is a rumor, is that Lagway’s first meeting with new head coach Jon Sumerall didn’t go well, although it hasn’t been confirmed that also could make sense.

The former Gator isn’t just making the rounds in Tallahassee; he will be visiting the University of Virginia next, which may have more of an upside right now than FSU.

Let’s not forget the Noles were also receiving visits this past weekend from UNLV quarterback Anthony Colandrea and former Auburn quarterback Ashton Daniel.

As of this post, there has been no news regarding how well Lagway’s visit went, as it’s still on, so Gator fans may need to hold their tongues and hatred at least for now.
