Rehabbing a shoulder injury while climbing the Marlins’ farm system, the former All-ACC standout returns to Tallahassee to cheer on his teammates during another postseason run.

As postseason baseball returns to Tallahassee for a third straight season, it gives former Florida State Seminoles standout Max Williams a chance to root on his old teammates.

Williams is waiting to continue his climb through the Miami Marlins organization as he recovers from a torn labrum with hopes of returning to the field in July.

The former Florida State standout played 19 games in 2025 for A-ball Jupiter Hammerheads. William, in his first few games as a professional, had a .269 average with a .643 OPS, along with seven RBI, five stolen bases, and 18 hits with 11 strikeouts. The outfield prospect had surgery to repair his torn labrum in his throwing shoulder in Feb.

The 21-year-old from Ormond Beach, FL, was drafted in 2025 with the 78th pick in the fourth round by the Marlins. Williams was one of 11 Florida State players taken in the draft. He ranks as the 17th overall prospect in the Marlins organization with an estimated time of arrival to the show in 2028.

Williams, a Florida native, decided to leave the state after graduating from Clay High School and head to Tuscaloosa to play college baseball for the University of Alabama.

Williams was ranked No. 83 nationally and was considered the No. 21 outfielder in his recruiting class.

In his one year with the Tide, Williams played in 18 games, starting three of them. The freshman hit .320 with three doubles and seven RBI.

For his sophomore season, Williams transferred back to his home state to play for the Seminoles after just one year at Alabama. He would play in 64 games, that season and started in 52 of the games. He had 11 doubles, four triples with 46 runs and held an average of .311.

Williams would earn the All-ACC Academic Team, along with the ACC Academic Honor Roll his sophomore season.

In his second year, Williams would help lead the Seminoles to an ACC runner-up finish and a second consecutive NCAA Super Regional appearance. In 57 games, Williams totaled 74 hits, with nine doubles, while driving in 53 RBI and batting .316 on the season.

His performance on the field and in the classroom earned him a spot on the Academic All-ACC team. Second team All-ACC and the Southeast Regional Second team.

According to MiLB Pipeline's scouting report, the 6’ 2” prospect has the ability to generate a ton of power. The young outfield can play all three spots in the outfield. Williams is aggressive  at the plate and will need to learn to turn it down if he wants to make a run at getting into the show.

This season Florida State finished the season 38–17 (19-11 ACC) on their way to hosting a third straight regional. Having the first-round games in Tallahassee is great  news for Florida State fans, considering the Seminoles had a dominant 27–4 record at home.

Williams, who is currently rehabbing, will likely be cheering on his Seminoles on Friday as they take on the St. John's Red Storm at 3:00 p.m. EST.
