

One of the nation's longest wins streaks came to an end Tuesday, when the No. 23 Florida Gators beat the 20th-ranked Florida State Seminoles 6-3 at Condon Ballpark in Gainesville.
Florida State (15-3) saw their nine-game winning streak snapped after a game of missed opportunities.
Florida State jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning when junior shortstop Cal Fisher hit a single into right center field with the bases loaded. Sophomore catcher Hunter Carns and junior center fielder Brayden Dowd both scored on the play.
The Gators (13-3) would respond immediately, scoring five runs in the third inning off of five hits. The Gators never looked back after taking the 5-2 lead. The Gators would strike again with the final run of the game when sophomore All American infielder Brendan Lawson homered in the sixth Inning. Sophomore right handed pitcher Luke McNeillie got the win for the Gators. The 6-foot-3 freshman pitched 2.2 innings, giving up three hits and one earned run. McNeillie is now 2-0 on the season for the Gators.
FSU batted 3-14 (.214) at the plate with runners on base, leaving eight men on base. Six different Gator pitchers combined to give up a combined six hits. Florida pitchers had 18 combined strikeouts compared to nine by the Noles. All-American first baseman Myles Bailey was 0-4 at the plate striking out three times. FSU’ top five batters had one hit, while striking out 11 times. Junior left-hander Kevin Mebil (1-1) took the loss for the Noles.
Carns finished with two hits and a run, while Fisher had one hit with two RBI. Redshirt senior Eli Putnam had a double, and scored a run.
The Seminoles, who are undefeated at home, will start ACC play at No. 12 Wake Forest on March 13. This will be a three-game weekend series against Wake, who is already 3-0 in the ACC conference. The Demon Deacons are 15-2 and 11-0 at home.
Wake Forest has 23 home runs as a team compared to FSU’s 18. They are led by sophomore All-American Dalton Wentz, who is batting .353 with 24 hits and five homers. Junior Javar Williams is batting .394 with 28 hits and two home runs, and Jackson Miller, who's batting .417 and has 20 hits and one home run.
