Florida State Fan Base Staging an Uprising Over Norvell

Florida State fans are fed up with coach Mike Norvell. They are taking matters into their own hands.

The frustration and anger at Florida State over the losing product put on the field by Mike Norvell, and the little to no response from university administrators, has boiled over.

According to the TJ Pittinger of the Double Fries No Slaw Podcast, the Seminoles faithful have started a GoFundMe account to raise money to hire an aircraft to fly around campus on Saturday.

That aircraft will tow a banner that reads “FIRE MIKE NORVELL.” It will fly over the stadium, over the tailgate areas, and over the entire campus.

Fans have raised $2500.00 so far. The actual total cost required to hire this plane is unknown.

Florida State has not beaten Clemson in Tallahassee since 2014.

The fans are frustrated at the poor return on investment, as it relates to Norvell and his coaching, and the lack of winning with the football program.

The Florida State faithful are now taking matters into their own hands in an effort to force the university administration to act.

School officials have been slow to responding to the backlash.

Florida State President Richard D. McCullough, PhD., issued a written statement on Tuesday.

It was about the athletic department as a whole, and that the university was close to hiring a search firm to hire a new athletic director.

That “letter” to the fans and supporters of Seminoles Athletics did not mention anything about Norvell or the football program.

Before that, Florida State fans heard the sound of crickets emanating from McCullough's office.

Some could say this action taken by the fans is a terrible look for Florida State University and their fan base. Pittinger disagreed.

“I don't understand how people say this is a bad look for FSU, because I think it's a good look for FSU,” said Pittinger.” At least the fan base. I think it'd be spun as a good look in terms of this fan base still cares deeply about what's going on here.

“The response of doing something like this is an incredible look for FSU. FSU fans are so passionate that you've got a random message board poster organizing an aircraft to fly around the stadium and the tailgate lots and the campus and the city of Tallahassee because they're so fed up with what this football program has become. I think it's an incredible look for Florida State's fan base.”

There has been a lot of bad happening with the Florida State football program since that ACC championship season of 2023:

  • 10-22 record (including loss in the 2023 Orange Bowl).
  • 0-12 in true road games.
  • 4 wins in the ACC.
  • University saddled with over $400 million in debt.
  • Failing to compete for top players in the NIL space, especially at quarterback.

However, these significant issues are not unique to Florida State alone. Every program in the country has suffered these same issues to some extent.

When it comes to firing football coaches and coming up with the money to fund these multi-million buyouts, schools always seem to find a way.

Norvell’s buyout is around $51 million.

Of course, it did not help that Florida State gave Norvell a contract extension worth $80 million at the end of the 2023 season.

Norvell was said to have been on the short list of candidates to replace the legendary Nick Saban at Alabama.

Saban abruptly announced his retirement at the end of the 2023 campaign.

Norvell replacing Saban is laughable now.

The fans are not laughing. They are mad and fed up with the state of this once proud and dominant football program that was put on the college football map by Bobby Bowden.

Actions speak louder than words. The fans have “spoken.”

For McCullough and the university to dismiss the fans and their concerns with their own continued no-to-slow response is to dismiss the fans at the university’s own peril.
