After being waived by the Sparks, record-breaking ACC standout Ta’Niya Latson joins Las Vegas, seeking to reignite her professional career with the powerhouse franchise in Sin City.
Former Florida State and South Carolina basketball star Ta’Niya Latson has signed a player development contract with one of the original WNBA franchises, the Las Vegas Aces.
Drafted No. 20 overall in the 2026 WNBA draft by the Los Angeles Sparks, Latson appeared in 10 games with limited action before she was placed on waivers on Monday. It did not take long for the Aces to recognize talent and scoop her up before the waiver wire cooled down.
In 2022, Latson was named Florida’s Miss Basketball and a McDonald’s All-American in high school in Plantation, Florida, before signing to play at Florida State.
Latson dominated on the court for the Lady Seminoles as a true freshman. In her first collegiate game, Latson scored 28 points and pulled down 9 rebounds in a 63-point win over Bethune-Cookman. For her freshman season, Latson averaged 21 points per game in what was a highly decorated rookie season:
- First-team All-ACC
- All-ACC Freshman Team
- ACC Rookie of the Year
- Freshman of the Year by WBCA
- Second-team All-American, 2025
Latson scored 659 points that first season, which was the most by a freshman in ACC history. In addition, Latson set a school record with seven 30-point games and went on to earn first-team All-ACC three times while at Florida State.
After being showered with awards and accolades, Latson decided to take her talents to South Carolina. With the Lady Gamecocks, Latson averaged 14 points per contest, helping lead South Carolina to a 36-4 record (15-1 SEC) and a national runner-up finish in the 2025-26 season.
A four-year starter at the college level, Latson averaged 20 points per game, four rebounds, and almost four assists per contest.
Las Vegas continues its schedule this week, on the road at Portland on July 9, with a 7 p.m. tip on The Spot-Vegas 34. This weekend, the Aces will play back-to-back games at Michelob ULTRA Arena against Phoenix on Saturday, which will stream on Peacock and air locally on The Spot-Vegas 34.
On Sunday, the Aces have a rematch against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever, which tips at 6 p.m. and will be broadcast on NBC. Availability of game tickets for the game vs. the Fever is limited and expected to sell out.
Despite her limited action with the Sparks, it is hard to deny Latson’s ability and talent for the game. Perhaps her new team in Sin City will bring her good fortune, and Latson can cash in and reignite what could be a promising professional career.
