FSU Hoops Routed at Home by UGA as Defensive Struggles Continue cover image

Florida State men's basketball is in the midst of a rough two-game skid, with back-to-back blowout losses. Unfortunately for the Seminoles, a road trip to No. 8 Houston is coming this weekend.

Florida State men's hoops entered Tuesday night's ACC-SEC Challenge in Tallahassee with a struggling defense. Its opponent, Georgia, entered the night as the highest-scoring team in the country. The result was predictable, if not a bit embarrassing: UGA routed FSU 107-73.

The loss dropped the Seminoles to 5-3 under first-year head coach Luke Loucks, dealing FSU its first home loss of the 2025-26 season. The Seminoles were held to 30 points in the first half, while UGA cruised through each period on its way to the blowout victory.

The Bulldogs have been a force early in the year, with their only loss an overtime thriller against Clemson. UGA had two marquee wins already, having defeated Xavier and Georgia Tech in non-conference play.

Losing to 8-1 UGA isn't a huge setback in a vacuum. However, the blowout fashion of the loss, paired with FSU's recent defensive struggles, will give Loucks and FSU fans reason for concern. FSU's last game before Tuesday looked eerily similar: a 95-59 loss to unranked Texas A&M in Tampa last weekend.

Unfortunately for the Seminoles, their next game is in Texas against No. 8 Houston. FSU will need to look more like it did in the two-point loss at Florida if it wants to escape the Alamo State with its dignity intact.
