Freshman homers and dominant pitching propel FSU to a resounding run-rule victory, extending their perfect season and showcasing a stacked roster.

In the second game of a double-header vs. Marshall, Florida State freshman Hayley Griggs stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the second inning. Griggs promptly showed why she belongs as she blasted a towering shot toward center field that caromed off the light pole for her first career home run to give the Lady Seminoles an early 1-0 lead.

Florida State later erupted for four runs in the third inning and went on to run-rule Marshall for a 10-2 victory on a long but victorious day for Lady Seminoles softball. FSU improved their career win total over Marshall to 7-0, having secured a 6-2 win over the Thundering Herd in Game 1.

The No. 7 Lady Seminoles are now 4-0 on the young season, their first 4-0 start in five seasons. Two of their four games this season have been decided by the 8-run rule.

Florida State started four freshmen today: catcher Anna Hindle, infielder Marin Heller, and utility players McKenna Sturgis, and Griggs. The Fab Four of Tallahassee combined for two home runs, 10 hits and five RBI’s in the two games against Marshall. This talented quartet is part of a recruiting class that consists of nine talented freshman and ranks No. 3 in the country.

In addition, Florida State is one of only two teams in the country that do not have a transfer on the roster.

In their four wins this season, the FSU pitching staff has logged 17 innings, allowed just one earned run, struck out 22 batters and issued four walks.

The Lady Seminoles are off to a fantastic start as the preseason pick to win the ACC for the 12th time in 13 seasons. FSU returns four All-ACC players:

P Ashtyn Danley

Danley is 32-8 in two seasons at FSU, with a 2.40 ERA. Over the final seven games of the 2025 season (20 innings), she allowed just one earned run.

P Jazzy Francik

Last season, Francik posted a 1.51 ERA, the lowest of any freshman in the country.

OF Kennedy Harp

In 49 games last season, Harp batted .412 last season, with a .765 slugging percentage. In the first ten games of 2025, Harp drove in at least one run in every game to set a school record.

SS Isa Torres

As the top shortstop in collegiate softball, Torres is on the watch lists for the 2026 National Player of the Year. As a first-team All-American last season, Torres batted .436, which was a school record. He hit nine home runs and had 45 RBI’s. She struck out only five times in 218 at-bats, and committed just nine errors in 188 chances.

In the NIL era, FSU does not have any transfers on their team. They are one of only two teams in the country to accomplish that feat.

After their fast start, JoAnne Graf Field proves to be the toughest place to play in college softball. It has become all opponents’ Waterloo. The Lady Seminoles were 21-5 at home last season, and have posted an incredible 166-27 record at their home venue, winning an incredible 86 percent of their games.

The Lady Seminoles are back in action Sunday, at 9 a.m. ET, as they take on UConn at JoAnne Graf Field.
