Florida State softball secured its 13th win in a row taking down the Syracuse Orange to win the game and the weekend series.
In a 13-1 drubbing, the No. 20 Seminoles beat the Orange with 10 hits and solid pitching.
The victory was kicked off in the first inning as Isa Torres hit her fourth home run of the season. Later that inning Jaysoni Beachum would also score for FSU on an RBI from Kennedy Harp. The Noles jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first frame.
The second inning is where the Noles really separated themselves as they put up five to further separate them from the opposition.
After being walked, Shelby McKenzie would eventually score on a sacrifice fly by Haley Griggs. Singles by Marin Heller and Makenna Sturgis would eventually set up two more runs for the Noles. Beachum, who was walked, would eventually score with the bases loaded on a sacrifice fly by Bella Ruggerio.
An error by the Orange would lead to Torres scoring. The garnet and gold left the second inning up 7-0 against unranked Syracuse.
The Noles continued to pour it on in the third inning as McKenzie, a second-year utility player, would hit her fourth home run of the season.
The Noles would never look back as Syracuse would remain scoreless through three innings.
The fourth inning saw another offensive explosion by the Noles as FSU would score another five runs to put this game away.
Angelee Bueno and Harp both ended up with free passes to first base and later scored on consecutive doubles by McKenzie and Heller. Heller would also eventually score on a single by Griggs. FSU would go up 13-0 after senior Madi Frey walked with the bases loaded.
The fifth inning saw Syracuse's freshman infielder Kendall Gaunt hit her first career home run, but it wasn't enough as the fifth inning ended 13-1, ending the game and giving FSU its ninth run-rule victory of the season.
FSU pitcher Ashtyn Daley improved to 6-1 on the season pitching four innings while striking out four. She only surrendered one run. Makenna Reid relieved Daley and struck out two while only giving up one earned run on one hit in one inning of work.
The Noles will play the final game of this series on Sunday.
FSU will gear up for the No. 2 team in the nation Wednesday as they have a home game against Texas Tech.
