FSU's Trey Beard stifled Wake Forest with a near no-hitter, fanning 14. His dominant performance earns national player of the week honors.

One hit, one walk, and 14 strikeouts in a shutout win over a conference opponent. That was the stat line for Florida State pitcher Trey Beard in a 2-0 victory in Game 2 against Wake Forest on Saturday.

The junior left-hander from Dunedin, Florida, was in command of the strike zone all day as the Demon Deacons (15-5, 3-3 ACC) had no answer at the plate to get a hit off Beard. Beard took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before FSU coach Link Jarrett made a pitching change.

For his efforts, Beard has been named the ACC Pitcher of the Week and the Golden Spikes Player of the Week.

Beard is 2-0 on the season and has lowered his ERA to 1.89. He has recorded 28 strikeouts and allowed just five walks so far this season. On Saturday, Beard’s pitching gem was the second consecutive shutout posted by the Seminoles (16-3, 3-0), a feat that had not occurred in 25 years.

Growing up a Florida State fan, Beard transferred to the Seminoles after two standout seasons at Florida Atlantic University.

In the 2024 and 2025 seasons at FAU, Beard posted a combined 186 strikeouts. In 2025, Beard rang up 118 strikeouts and became the first pitcher with 100 or more strikeouts since 2013. Beard was named first-team All-AAC.

In his freshman campaign of 2024, Beard earned AAC All-Freshman honors after recording 68 strikeouts and allowed a .233 batting average against him.

Beard is ranked among the top 100 MLB prospects, currently at No. 64. He has a big-league repertoire of four pitches, consisting of a fastball, curveball, change-up and a slider, that is devastating to opposing hitters.

Beard consistently throws strikes with any of those pitches, and opposing hitters are either caught looking at strike three or go down swinging.

While Beard dominated on the mound, FSU dominated at the plate all weekend against the Demon Deacons. The Seminoles hit 10 home runs in the series, including five on Friday night and four on Sunday, and outscored Wake Forest 24-6 in three games.

After Beard’s and the Seminoles performance this past weekend, Florida State rocketed up the polls, to No. 10 by Baseball America and to No. 11 by both D1 Baseball and Perfect Game.

On Tuesday, the Seminoles will host Bethune-Cookman at Mike Martin Field at Dick Howser Stadium, a venue where Florida State is undefeated this season at 11-0. The Seminoles have never lost to Bethune-Cookman, and their record currently stands at 10-0 versus the Wildcats.

The game will start at 6 p.m. ET and will stream live on ACC Extra or air on WFLA 100.7 FM.
