Uncover Virginia Tech's offensive threats and defensive vulnerabilities. Can FSU's D contain dual-threat QB Kyron Drones?

The Florida State Seminoles (4-5) play the Virginia Tech Hokies (3-6) this Saturday in Tallahassee. Kickoff in Doak Campbell Stadium is set for 7:30 p.m. on the ACC Network. Both teams are coming off losses, with FSU falling to Clemson 24-10 and Tech dropping a 28-16 decision against Louisville.

Here's everything you need to know about Virginia Tech before this weekend's game.

Virginia Tech Hokies - the Names and Numbers to Know

2025 results: The Hokies fired head coach Brent Pry after an 0-3 start to the season. Going 3-3 in the time since - including two ACC victories - is something of a win for interim head coach Phillip Montgomery.

That said, the Hokies are 1-3 in their last four games. The only win was an overtime squeaker against Cal back in October. Tech is near the bottom of the ACC in both points for and points against.

By The Numbers: The Hokies are scoring 24.3 points per game (90th of 136 nationwide), while allowing 29.7 points per game (103rd of 136). Tech's running game has held up fairly well, with Hokie ball carriers averaging 4.9 yards per rush. Dual-threat quarterback Kyron Drones is the second-leading rusher on the team and has eight touchdowns on the ground. The passing game, however, has yet to catch fire, with Tech averaging 177 passing yards per game.

Leading Passer: Kyron Drones - 152-for-260, 1,592 yards, 15 touchdowns, six interceptions

Leading Receiver: Ayden Greene - 24 catches, 382 yards, two touchdowns, 15.9 yards per catch

Leading Rusher: Marcellous Hawkins - 98 rushes, 576 yards, one touchdowns, 5.9 yards per rush

Leading Tackler: Linebacker Kaleb Spencer - 49 tackles, five tackles for loss

Game Analysis: The key to any game for Virginia Tech is how Drones performs. The quarterback is responsible for 23 of Tech's 25 touchdowns in 2025, with one touchdown apiece going to two running backs. If FSU stops Drones, it stops the Hokies entirely. If not...

Tech's defense has not been particularly sound, giving up just under 32 points per game in its last four games, all against ACC opponents. After FSU only scored 10 against Clemson, this could be an opportunity to bounce back.
