Severe storms cancel top-10 showdown. FSU refocuses on winning streak against California as weather forces a significant schedule change.

The rematch with the No. 10 Florida State softball team and No. 3 Texas Tech has been canceled due to severe storms and the threat of tornados ahead of the Red Raiders traveling to Tallahassee.

The heavyweight rematch between the two top-10 teams will not be rescheduled, and FSU will now focus its attention on an unranked conference opponent, the California Bears, on March 20.

The Seminoles lost a tight game, 3-2, to the Red Raiders on Feb. 12. Since then, Florida State has been red-hot at the plate during its 14-game win streak, but could only muster four hits against Texas Tech during its Feb. 12 road trip. The Raiders were No. 1 in the country when they last played the Noles, but dropped two spots after losing to No. 2 Texas. The Red Raiders will now focus on their next opponent, Central Florida on March 20. Tech also had to cancel their March 17 game versus Stetson for weather related issues.

NEXT UP THE BEARS

The Seminoles will now get ready to face the 10-19 Golden Bears at home in a three-game series that will begin on March 20. The Noles will look to continue their win streak against the unranked Bears, who are already off to a tough start in conference play at 1-5.

Against the Bears the Noles will be led by All American Isa Torres, who has 24 hits in her last 27 plate appearances; she also has 11 hits in her last 11 at-bats. The junior infielder has just been named ACC Player of the Week for the second week in a row. Torres is one of the national leaders in batting average at .648. She also leads the Seminoles with 49 hits.

The Noles have scored seven or more runs in seven of their last 10 games, and against Syracuse last weekend they scored 36 runs in the three-game home series.

The Bears will have a tough task as FSUhas also been strong on the mound. Pitcher Jazzy Francik is 10-1 this season, with a 1.75 ERA. Francik leads the team with 53 strikeouts on the season.

The first pitch for Cal-FSU is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET on Friday. The game will air on the ACC Network.
