Despite early brilliance against Alabama, costly turnovers and a fragile grip on momentum leave the 1-2 Seminoles facing coaching rumors and a desperate need for consistency.
Florida State football took on Alabama on Saturday at Bryant-Denny, and the contest went a bit better than expected.
The Seminoles took charge during the game being up 21-6 in the early stages of the 2nd quarter and maintaining a lead for quite a bit. But that was until the Crimson Tide rolled back into the game late in the first half.
FSU was doing well and they had momentum, taking the lead back in the third quarter going up 28-26. But from then on, Alabama started to click and score multiple touchdowns. But like the word used before, momentum.
The Seminoles got back within seven as quarterback Ashton Daniels ran for a six-yard touchdown and they completed the 2-point conversion, putting their score at 36, while Bama had 43. But then the Crimson Tide scored again and won the game 50-36.
Florida State did some things well, like Ousmane Kromah's 80 rushing yards and a touchdown. But when things are going well, they get bad. Turnovers and miscues didn't help.
This wasn't the first time that they had momentum and things got away from them. They got a week one win against New Mexico State, and they did well. But they lost against SMU in the next one. They had some time off and then went against a good Alabama team and had them on the ropes but again, lost. Now they're 1-2..
There's so much going on with FSU football with rumors of them possibly getting a new coach after the lackluster start to the season and so many changing factors with that. The loss against Alabama didn't help that either.
Their next game is against Central Arkansas, which is winnable. Then they get another one like that vs. Virginia, although they are currently ranked. But after that is more tough teams from the conference, like Louisville and Miami.
FSU football is win-now territory and they have to gain their before mentioned momentum back. They had it all offseason and at the start of this one and now only three games in, it seems gone. But it's not entirely gone. They still have a chance to turn things around and get back on track before the year is over.
It's not going to be easy but it is possible. The rest of the schedule has some heavy hitters, but in college football, anyone can win at any time. For the Seminoles, they have to do better, get it together, and save their season.
