The Seminole duo breaks a 23-year drought, anchoring a historic staff as ACC Pitcher of the Year Wes Mendes and lockdown closer John Abraham secure elite national honors.
Florida State pitchers John Abraham and Wes Mendes have been named 2026 All-Americans.
While both players are decorated, this is the first time either has been named an All-American. Mendes was honored by two groups: Perfect Game and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. Abraham was honored by the NCBWA.
Mendes was a National Pitcher of the Year semifinalist, and became the Noles 3rd ACC Pitcher of the Year all-time. Twice this season, he was named ACC Pitcher of the Week, in addition to being named 1st team All-ACC. Mendes was also named a National Pitcher of the Week on March 16.
This is the first time in Florida State history that the program has had a major conference award for three straight seasons. Alex Lodise was ACC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year 2025, and James Tibbs III was the ACC Player of the Year in 2024.
This week, both players were also named to the ABCA Southeast All-Region to add to their resumes.
The Noles have had over 50 baseball players named All-American over the last 51 years. It's the first time in 23 years that the Noles have had multiple pitchers on the same team receive All-American honors.
Mendes went 9-3 on the mound, including two complete games. In 2026, Mendes held opponents to a .207 batting average while maintaining a 2.90 ERA.
The southpaw finished the year ranked in the top 15 nationally in wins (9), strikeouts (109), and WHIP (1.00). Within the ACC, he pitched the most innings (62.1) and led the conference in strikeouts with 79.
One of Mendes' most brilliant performances came in the regular season when he struck out 12 batters in 6.2 innings in a 3-1 victory against the Duke Blue Devils.
Abraham was a finalist for the NCBWA Stopper of the Year award, and only the 2nd Nole in history to be named a finalist. In 43.1 innings pitched, the righty finished the season with a 1.04 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP. His six saves are tied for second in the conference.
In 2026, the Noles finished the season 40-19 overall, and 19-11 within the ACC conference. Their 2026 appearance in the NCAA tournament is the second-most all-time with 62 visits.
The Seminoles have also hosted more NCAA Regionals than any other program. They suffered a heartbreaking defeat against St. John's to prematurely end their season in their own Tallahassee Regional in 2026.
