The No. 10 Florida State Seminole softball team scored 42 runs during their three game series with Coastal Carolina. Not only did the Noles sweep the series, but they also extended their win streak to ten games. Several Noles stood out as the 21-4 Seminoles were unmatched by the 12-12 Chanticleers.
The opening game of this series saw junior All American Isa Torres make history by being the first Nole to ever have a six hit game going 6-for-6 at the plate. Torres also brought in four RBI and scored three runs.
The Noles were down 4-1 in the first inning after Noles starting pitcher Bella Dimitrejevoc would give up three home runs including back- to-back homers, and then a two run shot later in the inning. The Noles came back scoring four runs in the second inning led by a single to center field by Torres that scored three runs on the bases loaded play.
FSU would go on to score 15 runs in the final four innings to pull away for the 20-8 win. As a team the Noles had 22 hits, Ashtyn Daley (5-1) got the win after pitching 5.2 innings giving up seven hits, two earned runs, and three strikeouts. Starting catcher Bella Ruggerio went 4-4 with four runs scored and two RBI.
Game two saw more of the same as the Noles clinched the series with a 5-2 win. The Seminoles broke open the 0-0 game with a three run inning in the fourth. Coastal Carolina responded with multiple home runs in the sixth inning. FSU had ten hits in the game compared to only four by the Chanticleers. Jazzy Francik (8-1) got the win for the Noles. Francik pitched 2.2 innings giving up four hits, two earned runs, while striking out two.
The final game of the series saw tremendous offensive production from both teams. Coastal started fast taking a 7-5 lead into the fifth inning. The Noles responded tying the game at 11 going into the final inning. A series of wild pitches by Coastal contributed to the Noles scoring six runs in the final inning. Junior infielder Angelee Bueno had a career best with four hits. The most important hit was her fourth hit in the top of the seventh, as it drove in a run, helping seal the 17-11 win.
Up next for Florida State is South Alabama on March 11. At 16-10 the Jags are in for a tough game as they are 0-3 in away games, and FSU is 16-2 at home this season.
