
The Noles avenged a regular-season sweep by run-ruling Stanford 9-0. Backed by record-breaking performances from Isa Torres and Ashtyn Danley, FSU now chases its 20th ACC tournament title.
No. 10 Florida State softball advanced to its 28th ACC Championship game after defeating No. 17 Stanford by run-rule 9-0 in five innings in the ACC Semifinals in Charlottesville, Va.
This was a revenge game for the Noles (48-8) who were swept by Stanford (37-13) in their series during the regular season. The sweep was the only series loss the Noles had all season in the ACC. Florida State will now try to win its 20th ACC tournament when they play VTech for the ACC title.
The garnet and gold jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning following an Ashtyn Danley double that scored Isa Torres who walked to start the inning. Jaysoni Beachum who also walked would score off a wild pitch. Danley added another run scoring from a fielder's choice that turned into a wild throw.
FSU continued to roll in the second inning after Makenna Sturgis and Torres both singled. Jaysonui Beachum and Ashtyn Danley followed with RBI scoring Sturgis, and then Torres putting the Noles up 5-0 after two innings.
Sturgis and Torres both singled in the fourth before Beachum would single for a Sturgis score. Danley’s second double of the game allowed Torres to score. Anna Hinde hit a sacrifice fly that scored Beachum, and Danley would beat the throw to add an additional run. The Noles were up 9-0 after four innings. Florida would win by run-rule after five innings advancing them to the ACC Championship game.
All ACC utility player Ashtyn Danley not only closed the game out on the mound, but also had three hits, two doubles and three RBI.
All American Jaysoni Beachum has now reached base in 44 consecutive games after going 1-for-2 today. Her 60 RBI is eighth all-time at Florida State.
ACC Player of the Year Isa Torres had three runs today making her the single season all-time leader for the garnet and gold with 74 runs scored. The All-American has not committed an error in the field this season in 160 chances, which is why she was also named ACC Defensive Player of the Year.
Freshman pitcher Bella Dimitrijevic went four innings giving up one hit and no runs. She is now 7-2 on the season.
After already winning the regular season ACC Championship, FSU will now focus on the Hokies and the chance to win the ACC tournament as well. The game is Saturday, May 9, first pitch is at 2:30 p.m. at Palmer Park in Charlottesville, VA.
