Isa Torres fueled the top-seeded Seminoles' narrow victory over Georgia Tech, moving Florida State closer to school records and a high-stakes semifinal showdown against a formidable Stanford squad.
No. 1 seed Florida State defeats No. 9 Georgia Tech 2-1 to advance to the semifinals of the ACC tournament.
Florida State (47-8) has now won 30 consecutive games against the Yellow Jackets and is 4-0 against Tech this season. ACC Pitcher of the Year Jazzy Francik gave up one run in 5.2 innings pitched.
Georgia Tech struck first in the third inning when Holly Medina hit a sacrifice fly to score Reagan Wall who previously tripled. The Noles would answer quickly when ACC Player of the Year Isa Torres singled, and then stole second base. Anna Hinde singled, scoring Torres from second base, tying the game 1-1 after three innings.
After a Torres double in the fifth inning, Tech would walk Jaysoni Beachum and Anna Hinde was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Bella Ruggerio was also hit by pitch to score Torres for what would be the winning run giving Florida State the lead and leaving the fifth inning up 2-1. The game ended 2-1 after the top of the seventh inning.
All American Isa Torres proved to be the star going 1-for-3 at the plate today and scoring both runs for the Noles. Torres is three runs away from the all-time run record at Florida State. The junior shortstop was named ACC Player of the Year and ACC Defensive Player of the Year for the 2026 season. With 88 hits on the season Torres is 12 hits shy of the Florida State all-time record.
Jaysoni Beachum, who was earlier named 1st Team All ACC, went 1-for-1 with two walks. The No. 2 ranked third baseman in the country has now reached base in 43 consecutive games.
Jazzy Francik is now 21-2 with a 1.82 ERA on the season. Francik threw a complete game no-hitter in the series against Tech played earlier this season. With three no-hitters this season and multiple ACC Pitcher of the Week honors Francik is proving to be one of the elite pitchers in the nation.
All ACC performer Ashtyn Danley retired the last four batters of the game in only nine pitches. In her last 22.1 innings Danley has only given up one run.
FSU will now face Stanford on May 8 in the semifinals. The Cardinal swept FSU earlier this year and was the only ACC series loss the Noles had all season. First pitch is at 1 p.m. ET at Palmer Park in Charlottesville, VA.
