Coming off of back to back losses to Auburn and Nebraska, the Florida State Seminoles baseball team is looking to get back on track.
The Noles, who were undefeated going into this weekend, were outscored 18-6, and out hit 21-3 in their last 17 innings. Florida State has plenty of games left to make this a special season, and plenty of quality players to make it happen.
Skipper Link Jarrett signed a four-year extension in the off-season, and is looking to see his team get back to the NCAA Tournament after losing to Oregon State in last year's Super Regionals.
Despite losing 11 players to the 2025 MLB draft, Jarrett brought in 23 new players that included 10 transfers and 13 first-year players. Of the 23 players, 13 were pitchers.
Players to Watch
Wes Mendes- Mendes enters the season listed as a top-100 prospect for this year's MLB Draft. The junior lefty, out of Tampa, was 7-3 last year with a 5.42 ERA. This year Mendes is 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA. In two games Mendes has only given up five hits.
Trey Beard- Beard was the No. 1 pitcher in the transfer portal in 2025. The FAU transfer is a 6’2” junior lefty who twice was All-Conference for the Owls.
Last year he was 7-1 with a 3.14 ERA. In his only start this year, Beard gave up three runs in 2.1 innings pitched against Nebraska. Beard is considered one of the best lefties in the country.
Myles Bailey- At 6-foot-4, 257 pounds, the first baseman is built more like an NFL tight end. Bailey is coming off of a season where he was an All-American and was second in the ACC in home runs with 19.
He currently has seven hits, two home runs, and is batting .389. Bailey is considered one of the premier power hitters going into this year's MLB Draft. The Tallahassee native is the son of Kevin Bailey, who also played college baseball at cross-town Florida A&M.
Games to Watch
The Noles start ACC play with a three-game series at Wake Forest from March 13-16. The Demon Deacons are currently 6-1, and ranked #16 in ESPN’s college baseball rankings. The 21st-ranked Noles will travel to Stanford, Virginia, No. 5 Georgia Tech, and No. 15 Clemson. They’ll host No. 14 NC State, Duke, Notre Dame, and Pittsburgh.
Florida State will take on the tenth-ranked Florida Gators three times this season. They will play the Alligators on March 10 in Gainesville, March 24th, in Jacksonville, FL and April 7th at home.
The Seminoles will end the regular season with a three game series against the Miami Hurricanes on May 14-16. The Canes are 9-0 and currently ranked 17th by ESPN.
It’s early enough in the season for everything the Noles want regarding the post season to still be realistic. Jarrett is going to rely on his new pitching rotation, and big bats led by Bailey.
FSU has seven ranked teams on their schedule, and they sit as the sixth ranked team within the ACC. Jarrett and the Noles are going to need to get this season back on track fast because this will be a tough schedule.
The Noles lost a lot of talent last year, and they’ve struggled against the best teams they’ve faced so far this year.
