Mike Norvell is in a prime position to lock in blue-chip in-state recruits now that he has Post Charlotte 3-star QB Logan Flaherty's commitment.
Florida State head coach Mike Norvell locked in another massive recruiting win for his class of 2027 on Tuesday.
Port Charlotte QB Logan Flaherty announced his commitment to FSU, rewarding a steady, two-year recruiting effort by the Seminoles' staff.
Now, a 3-star prospect might not look that big of a win when Norvell’s Class of 2027 already has elite blue-chip talents like safety Mekhi Williams, linebacker Gregory Batson, and edge Anthony Cavallaro.
But his 3-star ranking hardly does justice to just how big a win Flaherty is for Norvell. FSU doesn’t just get a QB in him, they get a recruiting anchor that the staffers can further build their recruiting momentum around, which is something they desperately need right now.
Locking in an in-state prospect comes with a premium reward. Flaherty’s commitment hands FSU staffers the ideal bait to lure surrounding talent, using his deep roots with fellow Florida prospects to seal the borders and shut down rival pipelines.
Here are 3 in-state recruits Norvell and his staff can focus on now that they have the QB’s pledge.
Elias Pearl – 4-Star WR (Port Charlotte, FL)
This is the most logical domino to fall. Pearl is Flaherty’s actual high school teammate at Port Charlotte High. They already possess built-in, elite chemistry, and 247Sports lists Pearl right at the top of FSU's high-choice target list for 2027.
Jamarin Simmons – 4-Star WR (Tallahassee, FL)
Simmons plays right in FSU's backyard at Amos P. Godby High School in Tallahassee and is currently rated as a top target for the Seminoles' 2027 class. Wide receivers want stability at quarterback before they commit, and Norvell got it with Flaherty’s commitment.
Now, the staffers can directly introduce Simmons to Flaherty the next time he arranges a visit. Showing a homegrown local talent that he has a dynamic, mobile quarterback ready to feed him the ball for three to four years is a massive leverage point to keep him from leaving the state and choosing them over rivals.
Kelsey Gerald – 3-Star RB (Lake Worth, FL)
Gerald is a highly physical, in-state running back out of Santaluces Community High who is currently locked in as a "warm" target on Florida State's board. The Flaherty connection might just change it to “warm.”
The Lake Worth RB and the entire FSU staff know well that signal-callers like Flaherty need a physical downhill runner to freeze linebackers. Flaherty's ability to pull the ball and run forces defenses to hesitate, which opens up massive lanes for a back like Gerald.
Norvell can explicitly pitch him the definitive lightning-and-thunder backfield duo vision with Flaherty for FSU's 2027 class.
