One highly touted defender reopened his recruitment by dipping out of his Crimson Tide pledge. Here's why Florida State could intervene.

Florida State football has a golden opportunity to pounce on a now available four-star.

And he's a talent FSU offered early.

Jabarrius Garror of Mobile, Alabama, reopened his recruitment during the weekend of March 14. Garror, nicknamed "Chicken," had been committed to the Crimson Tide.

The 6-foot-2, 215-pounder is now being courted by Bama rival Auburn plus other Southeastern Conference challengers Texas and Texas A&M.

However, Zach Blostein of Noles247 reported FSU has stayed with Garror the longest during this recruiting cycle for the 2027 class.

"No program has been invested in Jabarrius Garror's recruitment longer than Florida State. Seeing that early evaluation pay off by landing him in the end would be a big deal for the Seminoles' scouting and recruiting department," Blostein wrote.

There's plenty of room for FSU and head coach Mike Norvell to add Garror should they land him. Blostein is another believer that some courting needs to begin from the Seminoles' side.

"Garror also plays a huge position of need for FSU: edge rusher," Blostein wrote. "They need to get better at rushing the passer and there aren't many in the country that harass quarterbacks on a more routine basis than 'Chicken.'"

Blostein added: "Beating a number of other SEC programs for a prospect in their backyard would also be a big statement for the 'Noles."

It would be a massive recruiting coup for Norvell and Co. to land the electric, quick pass rusher -- especially with FSU having past success with quick defenders a la Jared Verse (though Verse was via the transfer portal).

FSU indeed will likely pursue, especially with Garror expected for Legacy Weekend later in March.

"It's not going to be easy to be to land him with the number of SEC programs in the mix -- however FSU has done just about everything right in his recruitment to this point -- which is giving them a shot," Blostein wrote. "They've hosted him on campus six times to this point and will make that seven when he returns to campus in a few weeks for Legacy Weekend."

Yet what's the big sales pitch FSU can turn to?

"FSU can sell that role he wants to take on through their JACK position, which is exactly what they've been telling him since Tony White took over the defense prior to the 2025 season. The next step for FSU is to lock in an official visit with the Alabama native," Blostein said.

Garror is more than a recruiting need to boost rankings for  Florida State. This is more about finding high quality pass rushers for the future. Especially with FSU soon dealing with Darian Mensah for possibly two more years at Miami plus other high-profile QBs. Garror rises as a massive need and worth poaching now that he dipped out of Alabama.
