The suddenly slimmer Seminoles nose tackle now looks like a fit for these three teams.
But that likely won't drop his stock.
Instead, the lighter framed interior defensive lineman could now land higher than he was originally projected. Early mock drafts listed the then-335-pounder as a late day three selection with fifth and sixth round value.
The now 315-pounder looks faster in workouts per multiple reports. And with that thinner frame, he set himself up to go as high as the third round.
Which also means he looks like a new fit for these three teams. This is based on more than potential fit, but also because of each team's history of using lighter weight defensive tackles like the now slimmer Jackson. And these list of NFL teams are far different following Jackson's Pro Day.
Houston Texans
Head coach DeMeco Ryans loves playing fast on defense, his area of expertise.
Will Anderson Jr. sets the tone here. Then Danielle Hunter wrecks havoc on the opposite side. But teams have still wore down Houston on the interior.
Jackson can come in handy for Ryans. The head coach and former All-Pro linebacker will fawn over Jackson's gap quickness and girth, the latter allowing him to take on double teams.
Jackson could even contend for pass rushing downs with his smaller frame.
Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jags lacked a consistent pass rush down the middle. They also need someone younger to eventually succeed Arik Armstead.
Jackson is emerging as a possible successor. Although Jackson's game at FSU was tailored for stuffing the run.
That's still a need in Duval County. Jacksonville could still land Chris McClellan of Missouri before the second round (which is ESPN's projection as of Thursday).
But defensive tackle remains a need anyway. The Jags need multiple interior defenders beyond whoever they land early. Landing Jackson would win over a lot of local fans too.
Kansas City Chiefs
Like Armstead, the Chiefs have to figure out the eventual replacement for Super Bowl winner Chris Jones.
He's not getting any younger and KC needs to find someone younger.
Andy Reid and the front office could take a liking to Jackson. Especially since he shed weight to become quicker on the front line.
Defensive tackle is a big need along with edge rusher and wide receiver. Like Jacksonville, KC could draft Jones' successor on night one. Or they can hold off in round three and settle for the Florida State star.
