After losing key stars to the transfer portal, Lonni Alameda secures Stetson powerhouse Nicole Edmiastron to recharge the Seminoles' offense following a disappointing postseason exit.
The Florida State softball team has signed 2026 ASUN Player of the Year Nicole Edmiastron. Edmiastron played for Stetson this season before entering the transfer portal.
This is big news for manager Lonni Alameda, who lost Isa Torress to the transfer portal earlier this month. Torres was named National Player of the Year by multiple outlets. Replacing her production on offense and defense will be a huge challenge for Alameda.
The signing of Edmiastron is the first step toward replacing a player of Torres' caliber. Edmiastron was productive at the plate this year, ranking in the top twenty nationally in home runs (23), batting average (.453), slugging percentage, RBI (70), and on-base percentage (.561). She set school records for Stetson with batting average, slugging percentage, and on-base percentage.
As a result of her production, Edmiastron earned many postseason accolades, such as First Team NFCA All-Region and First Team All-ASUN.During the regular season, she was named National Player of the Week and finished the season ranked as the No.49 best softball player in the nation per Softball America,
Edmiastron will be a welcome addition to a Florida State softball program that greatly underachieved this past season. The Nole were one of the hottest teams in the nation with a 25-game win streak during the regular season. They entered the postseason as the No. 9 team and were upset in their home regional by Stetson and in the championship game against UCF.
Alameda was criticized for the early departure in this year's tournament. The Florida State coach has had outstanding recruiting classes while in Tallahassee and has turned those prized recruits into eight all-conference selections in 2026, but was not able to get to the College Softball World Series.
Florida State not only lost Torres, but also lost All-American third baseman Jaysoni Beachum. Beachum, who also entered the portal looking for a payday to match her elite level of play. Florida State and Duke were the only teams in the ACC not to sign a transfer portal player prior to the 2026 season.
Before becoming a star player for Stetson, the Freeburg, Illinois native played two years of junior college at Florida Southwestern State College. While with the Buccaneers, she batted .383 with 73 RBI. Prior to Southwestern Edmiastron was an all-state performer at Freeburgh High School, batting .636 with 13 homers and 73 RBI in her final high school season.
