Florida State is standing out for one defensive back who stands above a lot of his peers -- even wide receivers.
Alan Blackshere of Norland High in Miami brought his intriguing 6-foot-4 frame over to the Rivals Miami Camp held during Valentine's Day weekend. Zach Blostein of Noles247 attended the event and raved about the talents Blackshere possesses -- while also revealing where FSU really stands in his recruitment.
"The biggest standout to me in this group was Alan Blackshere. The unranked defensive back out of Miami Carol City High School took a bunch of reps and either won or was highly competitive in the majority of them," Blostein wrote.
Again, Blostein took a liking to Blackshere's game and intangibles.
"He's long, listed at nearly 6-foot-4, and moved well enough to hold up at cornerback against some of the best wide receivers at the camp, including several blue-chip prospects," Blostein said.
While it's not known which WRs he tangled with, the talent on display among the WRs was a star-studded one -- including Florida State WR target Jamarin Simmons and Elias Pearl, who's already at 11 offers including one from Colorado and FSU legend Deion Sanders. Four-star tight end Demarcus DeRoche also attended the event, who's a potential flip target for Florida State as DeRoche is currently committed to Miami.
Blackshere, meanwhile, holds 22 offers so far yet is surprisingly unranked for the recruiting cycle in 2027. Though he's got some blue blood programs taking a keen interest in him.
Alabama is among his early offers. Same with FSU rival Florida. Others that have offered include Auburn, Kentucky, Oregon and Stanford.
But it's the Seminoles courting him hard at the moment.
"FSU got him on campus last month and are his current leader," Blostein said. "He hasn't really visited many other schools yet, however. So plenty could change in his recruitment with a number of top programs now in the mix."
Blackshere is a versatile safety and cornerback prospect. He's able to keep his hips low when back pedaling, which tends to get hard for a taller recruit. Blackshere's rapid fire feet, though, allows him to stay attached to the wide receiver he's covering.
Given his skyscraper frame, CFB teams likely will envision him playing safety. That's going to mean playing closer to the line of scrimmage and throwing his body around. But so far, FSU looks like the frontrunner for Blackshere.
