Florida State will be hosting St. Petersburg native and former UNLV QB Anthony Colandrea.

While Florida State fans are excited to learn that former Florida Gators quarterback DJ Lagway will be visiting campus Sunday, along with former Auburn quarterback Ashton Daniels, one name no one is talking about may be the best of the three: former UNLV starter Anthony Colandrea.

Colandrea, who is originally from St. Petersburg, followed former Florida head coach Dan Mullen to UNLV, where he excelled as their starter.

He passed for 3,459 yards and ran for another 649 yards with a total of 33 touchdowns. He had nine interceptions.

He was also named the Mountain West Player of the Year. He was previously a multi-year starter at Virginia, amassing 4,083 passing yards and 26 TD to 20 INT in two seasons.

Out of the three quarterbacks visiting campus, he may be the best one. Lagway will get the most attention because he played at Florida and his upside with his running ablities, however, his passing ablities may not be as good Colandrea, plus he has been injury prone throughout his time in Gainesville.

Same with Daniels. While at his last two spots, Daniels was more known for running abilities than his passing, with Colandrea, you have both.

Back in November, his former head coach praised the quarterback for his progress throughout the season, particularly in learning a new offense.

“He’s done a fantastic job," Mullen said. "You see his growth. You give him one-on-one coverage, he’s probably going to take a shot downfield and give a guy a chance to make a play. But if they’re bracketing and doubling people, you see him check down and take what the defense gives you."

"And when he drops back, and everyone is covered, look out. That might be when he’s at his best. He takes off and does special things. He’s hitting the holes he is supposed to hit when running the ball," he added.

That is one heck of an endorsement from a guy who used to coach the likes of Dak Prescott at Mississippi State when he was the head coach there.

While landing Lagway is probably who most Noles' fans want, Colandrea might be the quarterback this team needs if they want to make a serious run not only in the ACC but in the College Football Playoff.

Rumor has it that the Tennessee Volunteers may also be seeking out the services of Colandrea so the Noles coaching staff needs to make a decision fast.
