The head coach didn't hesitate to reveal that there will be players exiting Florida State.
Luke Loucks already faces his most crucial offseason yet since taking over as Florida State basketball head coach.
Now Loucks will have more time to evaluate his staff and roster...with big changes on deck for the latter.
That means portal entries as he bluntly said via Noles247 on Wednesday. But will it be Loucks and his coaches telling certain players to look elsewhere?
"I expect a couple of our guys will hit the portal, just by mutual decision," Loucks said.
He doesn't believe that the player departures are anything personal.
"I think it will be be good for them. I expect, hopefully a couple will come back, and those negotiations need to start year-end meetings," Loucks said. "I like to do a year-end review in every role I've been in, just self-reflective, things that went well, things that didn't go well, and what you did to address them during the season, how you can tweak those things moving forward, and then things where we're absolutely atrocious, and we need a come to Jesus moment of we cannot do this and be successful."
Loucks said that process is a lengthy one to address.
"All of those things take time, and it's hard to do those things while you're still in-season," Loucks said. "And so it does give us a couple weeks here to get our feet underneath us, to plan, to watch film, to have those conversations, to fundraise, and hopefully set us up to be in a better spot moving forward."
When will FSU and Loucks dive into the next phase of constructing the next Seminoles roster?
"So that's what these next few weeks will look like. Obviously, I would love if I won't give you all the details, but love if we could continue to communicate through the portal just to keep the fans engaged with what we're doing, who we're visiting, who we're talking to, once the portal opens, and and hopefully keep this momentum with our program in a positive direction," Loucks said.
Regardless of who stays or goes, Loucks must replace six seniors including Chauncey Wiggins, Lajae Jones and Robert McCray V who energized the Noles in points.
Plus the head coach must build new momentum following FSU's late charge to finish 18-15 overall, ending with handing No. 1 ranked Duke a scare in the 80-79 loss during the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament.
Florida State opted to end its season and not pursue the National Invitational Tournament (NIT) off of a player vote.
