As Majay Thompson weighs a commitment, the three-star wideout challenges Mike Norvell’s staff with pointed concerns regarding program stability and the consequences of another losing season.
Florida State is finally stacking wins on the recruiting trail to fuel a much-needed bounce-back year after two consecutive losing seasons.
Mike Norvell made certain improvements to his staff, yet a lot of things didn’t go his way. Like Gus Malzahn announcing his retirement, like Tony White’s defensive scheme getting nightmares from opponents, when it was supposed to be the squad’s saving grace while the offense figured itself out.
Now, the offensive playcalling is back in Norvell’s hands, and that raises serious questions. While all recruits might not address them formally, Shelby three-star wide receiver Majay Thompson did.
After wrapping up his weekend official visit to Florida State. Thompson is about to make a decision on June 19th.
"It was smooth. Just being here, feeling everything out - the environment, the coaches - it was good," Thompson said of his visit to Tallahassee.
Alabama, Georgia, and Wake Forest are other teams in contention for the 6-foot, 186-pound wideout in addition to the Seminoles. Thompson’s overall review of the Seminoles was decent, but one particular comment from him on Norvell’s staff is where things get concerning.
Majay Thompson Concerned About FSU's Coaching Stability
"Just about coaching stability and what could happen with the season, if the season was to go bad," Thompson said about Norvell’s staff, expressing clear hesitation in the department.
"All in all, coach, he's got some more years. Coach Harris just got that extension because he's the offensive coordinator. So all in all, everything is good."
His official visit marked his second visit to FSU in 2026. He unofficially visited back on April 9th, when the Seminoles offered him. Things didn’t change for him much the second time around, since FSU remains in the same spot on his list.
"Honestly, FSU, they've been in the same spot in my recruitment, because at the end of the day, FSU just been themselves," Thompson said.
"They aren't going to try to do extra just to be what other schools are. That is one thing I like about FSU, they just keep it real, honest."
"Really they just answered all my questions that I had and concern. And then just showing me around more. Like the facilities, the apartments, and stuff like that,” he added.
Offensive coordinator and WR coach Tim Harris Jr., and Mike Norvell both were personally involved in convincing Thompson about FSU being the perfect future program for him. They even went into discussions regarding his future position and how he could have an early start, which is one of his priority entering the season.
"Really just how they can see myself in it. You know there are a ton of options for me with my play-style and how I fit in it. Just doing everything."
June 19 isn’t very far, and so the Seminoles may expect another commit their way soon.
