The Seminoles swooped up a former Wake Forest talent in Cooper Schwieger, who head coach Luke Loucks raved about.
Florida State basketball showed their aggressive side in the portal by swooping up a talent from an Atlantic Coast Conference rival.
Cooper Schwieger comes over via his last stop Wake Forest. He managed to start in 11 games for the Demon Deacons while playing in 34 games.
But his experience isn't just limited to FSU's ACC foe. Schwieger carved out his college basketball path first at Valparaiso University of the Missouri Valley Conference. He rose as the MVC Freshman of the Year during the 2023-24 season before eventually landing the transfer portal.
His new head coach Luke Loucks broke his silence about adding the former Valpo and Wake Forest talent via a school release Monday.
"Cooper is a tremendous addition to our program," Loucks began. "He has real experience in college and in the ACC from competing with Wake Forest last season and starting in 11 games."
Loucks dove further into the deep experience Schwieger brings.
"He has started 76 games in his three seasons, and he has shown his productivity and impact on winning," Loucks said.
So what other aspect of Schwieger's game drew Loucks and the Seminoles coaching staff in?
"We love his versatility and skill set on offense," Loucks mentioned. "He has the ability to shoot, pass, and attack off the dribble, which fits into how we want to play offensively."
Yet Loucks believes the 6-foot-10 forward is yet to play his best basketball.
"We believe he still has untapped potential, which is exciting," Loucks said.
The head coach concluded how Schwieger is bringing an excited mindset over to Tallahassee as he transitions into a new program for the third time in his CBB career.
"Most importantly, Cooper is a great young man who is motivated to help the Seminoles win a championship on the court while embracing the community," Loucks said.
Schwieger averaged 14.5 points per game during his Valparaiso run. He also collected 6.7 rebounds for his career, handing the Seminoles a potential double-double threat.
He's one of five new additions formally announced Monday by Loucks and the school. Including incoming guard Elisee Assui, who comes over via Italy and starred for their national team.
Except Schwieger is the only forward coming over to Tallahassee.
