Florida State is looking to add another offensive lineman.
On Wednesday, the Seminoles are hosting former Auburn tackle Xavier Chaplin, first reported by Noles247's Chris Nee.
The Noles announced earlier Wednesday that they had signed Troy transfer OL Paul Bowling from the portal.
Chaplin, who is 6-foot-7 and weighs 348 pounds, is the No. 65 overall player and the No. 8 offensive tackle.
In 2025, Chaplin started all 12 games at left tackle for the Tigers. He allowed three sacks, three quarterback hits, and 17 pressures. Chaplin did have an issue with penalties, committing 12 this past season. His PFF run-blocking grade was 56.1, but he performed significantly better as a pass blocker, earning a 71.1 grade.
This will be Chaplin’s third team. Before Auburn, he played at Virginia Tech for three seasons.
Due to playing in just one game as a freshman, Chaplin earned a redshirt after the 2022 season. He would start 25 games at left tackle in his final two seasons with the Hokies and has one season of eligibility remaining.
It appears that the Seminoles' main focus this offseason is to rebuild the offensive line. It appears they may have found their quarterback in Ashton Daniel.
In other portal news, one of the Noles’ quarterback targets signed with the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Former UNLV quarterback Anthony Colandrea announced on Tuesday.
Colandrea was named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year this season. Colandrea was 275-of-417 for 3,459 yards and 23 touchdowns, with nine interceptions, in 14 games in UNLV head coach Dan Mullen’s first season in Vegas. Colandrea also rushed 127 times for 649 yards and 10 scores.
As for the Seminoles' other quarterback target, former Florida Gators quarterback DJ Lagway, he is reportedly visiting Virginia this week, although Lagway reportedly had a good time while he was in Tallahassee.
But you have to wonder with Daniels announcing his commitment first if that pushes Lagway toward another team, although Daniels seems to fit the type of system offensive coordinator and former Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn runs.
The good news is that Lagway still has FSU high on his list, and the Noles are still in the running for his services. It never hurts to have two great QBs on your team.
