Seminoles face Boston College in a crucial weekend series. A sweep guarantees the top ACC seed and conference title.
No. 10 Florida State is in Boston to wrap up the regular season with a three-game series against ACC foe Boston College starting Friday afternoon.
What's at Stake
If the Seminoles (43-8, 18-3) sweep the Eagles, they will win another ACC regular-season title and secure the No. 1 seed in the upcoming ACC tournament. Even if the Noles win the series, one loss this weekend opens the door for Duke to become the co-conference champion and the No. 1 seed.
Last Time Out
Boston College (13-35, 3-18) was swept by Notre Dame, outscored 17-4 over their three-game series. With three conference wins on the season, playing spoiler to the Noles will let the Eagles end this season with a much needed highlight for the year.
On Wednesday, Florida State lost 4-3 to No. 8 Florida. The Noles were riding a seven-game win streak prior to their loss to the Gators.
Florida State Players to Watch
Isa Torres was named the No. 1 shortstop in the nation by Softball America. Last week she hit five home runs and was named National Player of the Week for her efforts. Torres leads the nation with a .558 batting average. The junior has not committed an error in 142 chances this season.
Ashtyn Danley held batters to an .125 batting average last week while going 3-0 during last weekend's series against Georgia Tech. Danley was named ACC Pitcher Of the Week for last week's dominance on the mound.
Jaysoni Beachum is the No. 2 third baseman in the nation, according to Softball America. Beachum has reached base in 39 consecutive games.
Boston College Players to Watch
Adriana Martinez was the only Eagle to secure a hit in all three games versus Notre Dame. Martinez is on an 11-game hitting streak and is batting .333 on the season.
Sammy Horn is batting .319 as Boston College’s leadoff hitter. She’s considered a good contact hitter who can play multiple positions in the field.
Abby Ptak is hitting .379 this season and has emerged as one of the ACC’s more consistent hitters. Known as a great gap hitter, she has 14 doubles and 58 hits on the season.
Series History
Florida State is 49-4 all time against BC. The Eagles have not beaten FSU since 2022. In their last eight games in Chestnut Hill, the Noles have outscored the Eagles 42-11.
X Factor
Boston College is hitting .277, a mark that reflects its struggles at the plate and aligns with its three conference wins this season.
Noles pitcher Ashtyn Danley has just been named ACC Pitcher of the Week, and Jazzy Francik has earned the same recognition on two occasions this season. Francik also pitched a no-hitter in last week's series versus Georgia Tech. If the Noles pitching rotation has an average outing, that will probably prove to be too much for the Eagles.
The Seminoles are dominant at the plate, and in the field with a .985 fielding percentage, which is second in the nation. The X factor in this game is that FSU has too much on the line to not sweep the Eagles, and the Noles are just too good overall.
Saturday's game is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET, with Game 3 set for Sunday at 5 p.m.
