Anthony Cavallaro chose Florida State on Friday to boost the edge rush room. Time to dive into the impact of this commitment.

Florida State added some height, athleticism and an Atlantic Coast Conference target on Friday.

Anthony Cavallaro is the newest member of the 2027 FSU recruiting class. He ends up shutting down his recruiting process early before January closes up.

Is there plenty to like about the new edge rusher? It's time to launch a new series called "Getting to Know the Newest 'Nole."

Vitals

Cavallaro will walk in as one of the taller prospects for this class -- at 6-foot-5, 200-pounds.

Power conference schools aren't shy to gravitate toward towering edge rushers. Lots of edge rush coaches envision the long wingspan keeping tackles at arm's length. But then raising them high to break up the pass.

Cavallaro presents the long arms FSU envisions. But it's what he does with his arms and legs that should intrigue FSU.

Field Production

Cavallaro is explosive the moment the ball moves.

He's quick enough to stress pass block setups, then slips by through a bull rush or off speed.

The Indian Rocks Christian School star runs with a relentless motor with the desire to blow plays up.

Commitment Impact

Cavallaro rates as a three-star on 247Sports but four-star per the composite rankings and via On3/Rivals.

He's a key recruiting trail win for edge rush coach Nick Williams. He manages to get Cavallaro to choose FSU over the likes of Michigan State, Pittsburgh, Louisville, plus national title game runner up Miami.

He was nearing double digit offers before opting for FSU.

Most Eye-Popping Stats

It's not his 12.5 sacks either.

Cavallaro delivered 25 tackles behind the line of scrimmage.

That means he wrapped up 13 running backs for losses too -- showing he combines his arm length, pursuits, and eye awareness for the ball.

He said it

Cavallaro shared this to Zach Blostein of 247Sports when he committed.

"[FSU] just felt like a family from the head coach, all the way to the people driving us around in golf carts. It just felt like this is where I needed to be to be at my best," Cavallaro said.

Future Impact

Again, Cavallaro becomes a huge pickup for Williams but also for Mike Norvell.

He's one of the state's top edge rush talents and one of the first to commit for FSU.

The presence of Williams proves he's not playing games as a recruiter. He wants to lock in the state's best who can rush the passer. Cavallaro is a massive start.

And he's still in pursuit of Santana Harvey and Desmond Malpress -- two more state of Florida four-stars. Williams will gun for recruiter of the year if he lands both. But Cavallaro is an impressive start at launching his Sunshine State recruiting sweep.
