The Seminoles continue to address every roster opening ahead of 2026-27. Here's a breakdown of the latest pickup.
Florida State is continuing roster construction for the 2026-27 season.
This time head coach Luke Loucks and his coaching staff dipped to the international side for the latest addition: Elisee Assui of Italy.
The Italian forward adds to a list of newcomers to Tallahassee, with DraftExpress confirming his decision on Wednesday morning.
So what is FSU getting out of this international talent? Here's a breakdown.
Versatile Defender
Assui brings the length and versatility to play up to four different positions on the floor.
And he'll head to the college game battle-tested from his Italian League.
He most recently played for Pallacanestro Varese in Italy - LBA Serie A, the highest tier of Italian professional basketball on that side of the globe.
Sure, his numbers may not stick out: 27 games played this season in that league, averaging 3.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 0.6 steals, and 0.2 blocks per game.
But he's active on the floor and proved to be coachable. His lengthy wingspan hands Loucks a perimeter defender option who can switch down low and cover ground there.
Rim Attacker
Assui isn't just known for his defense.
He does attack lanes when there's an opening. Assui won't just settle for a spot up shot.
He's skilled and staying low while dribbling and charging to the hoop. Assui also trusts his shoulders and power to drive defenders backwards and finish under the basket.
He played in multiple elite leagues in Italy too.
Assui has also played with Italy in both the U18 and most recently U20 events on the international stage.
He dropped 13.4 PPG, 4.9 rebounds, 2.0 assists. 0.3 steals and 0.3 blocks per game for the latter team in Italy.
Fit at Florida State
FSU manages to beat out Atlantic Coast Conference rival Virginia for Assui. Fellow ACC rival Louisville also reportedly was interested.
But there's a more profound reason why Assui comes over: Thomas Bassong.
Originally slated to return, Bassong chose to submit final paperwork to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal on Tuesday. Hence why FSU moved swiftly to nab Assui.
Now he brings a versatile guard/forward element to Loucks that Bassong officially vacates. This is still a smart and swift move FSU is making here.
