DJ Lagway could be going from the "Gator Chomp" to the "Tomahawk Chop."
The past Florida star helped shake up the early College Football Transfer Portal window Saturday morning, as On3/Rivals first reported the quarterback is in contact with Florida State.
There's additional fuel too -- as Lagway's father tells Noles247 that the QB is indeed going to visit the Tallahassee campus
The transfer portal created a system where players can even consider their old rival as a potential home. The dual-threat QB, though, would become the first high-profile Gators talent to choose annual rival Florida State in the era of the portal if he shuts his new recruitment down.
Does this officially mean Lagway is the top QB on the Seminoles' board? Head coach Mike Norvell and his coaching staff doesn't just have Lagway's name plastered on their personal portal board.
However, Warchant.com on On3/Rivals revealed FSU's top QB is taking a visit elsewhere -- hence the Lagway news.
"Florida State is in the market for a starting quarterback, and the Seminoles’ top early target — former Old Dominion QB Colton Joseph — is visiting Wisconsin before a planned visit to FSU," wrote Matt LaSerre of On3.
Joseph and Lagway aren't the only ones linked to FSU. Another intriguing Group of Five talent in on the portal radar in Tallahassee. But this same QB is taking in a Southeastern Conference trip.
"Former UNLV quarterback Anthony Colandrea, who also is high on the Seminoles’ radar, is visiting Tennessee," LaSerre added.
Of the two, Colandrea is fresh off throwing for 3,459 yards, 23 touchdowns and enduring nine interceptions for the Rebels -- who were led by well-known QB coach Dan Mullen. The same Mullen who once developed Dak Prescott and helped turn Tim Tebow into a Heisman Trophy winner.
But with Joseph and Colandrea visiting other programs this weekend, this swings the door open for Lagway to rise to the top QB target for Florida State.
The Seminoles are in the market for a new QB after Tommy Castellanos was a one-and-done. Castellanos even came via another FSU rival -- but Atlantic Coast Conference foe Boston College. Castellanos won over Seminole fans by leading the stunning upset over 2025 College Football Playoff representative Alabama to open the season. FSU, however, missed a bowl game by finishing 5-7 overall.
Norvell, meanwhile, must pull off some massive portal moves to win back the fanbase. Siphoning Lagway from the portal would become a hellacious start.
