New Florida State Coach Pursuing Four-Star Miami Target cover image

This brand new Seminoles assistant already is attempting a big recruiting statement by aiming to snatch this talent from the Hurricanes.

Florida State football is turning loose its rearranged coaching staff on the recruiting trail.

It's not just promoted linebackers coach Ernie Sims pursuing elite talent either. Head coach Mike Norvell has one of his newcomers aiming to out-recruit rival Miami for one highly-touted four-star.

Zach Blostein of 247Sports rolled out the list of most important 2027 recruits the Seminoles are chasing on the recruiting trail Monday. Blostein mentioned the new coach who's hit the ground running -- plus the talent he's aggressively pursuing from Miami's clutches.

"FSU's new running backs coach Kam Martin has attacked the recruiting trail since being hired to the staff in December and four-star running back Brayden Tyson is one of his top targets," Blostein said.

Tyson already locked in a future recruiting trip to Tallahassee for June 12. That signals Martin is immediately winning over the four-star power back.

"Tyson is a prolific player in the state of Georgia, turning in impressive seasons yearly over his three-year high school campaign to this point," Blostein added. "Martin's board at running back is expansive but Tyson is one of the top names."

Tyson becomes a massive state of Georgia win -- let alone a huge recruiting victory -- if Martin indeed pulls it off. But the newest backfield coach does have heated competition.

"Miami is another top contender for Tyson, who is also considering Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee among other programs," Blostein wrote.

Tyson is the highest ranked non-quarterback FSU is aiming to reel in for the Class of 2027. He exploded as a national recruit after tallying 2,123 yards and 26 rushing touchdowns in 2024.

The Brookwood High star of Snellville, Ga., is closing in on 40 scholarship offers. He's also a top 20 running back -- coming in at No. 17 overall per 247Sports composite rankings.

Martin, meanwhile, is making a huge coaching jump by joining Norvell's staff. He previously led the Tulsa running back room last season. But this won't be his first Sunshine State rodeo.

He led the UCF RBs for two seasons before heading to the Golden Hurricane. Martin also coached at Incarnate Word -- which runs a vaunted RPO (Run Pass Option) approach.

FSU becomes his first Power Conference coaching gig, though. Already, he's making a big early impression by courting a talented four-star. But he'll win over FSU fans if he lands the touted Tyson.
